In late '59, Briggs Cunningham bought 3 identical 1960 Corvettes for his personal racing team, and enetered them at the 24 hours of Lemans. Had his shop modify them lightly, more for the sake of assuring reliability than to increase speed - #3 is the only car that actually finished the race, AND managed to win its class, placing 8th overall. It would be another 40 years before a Corvette accomplished anything noteworthy at la Sarthe.

In 1952, Briggs Cunningham introduced the Continental C3 road car. This model established his bona fides as a car manufacturer with the race organizers at Le Mans and elsewhere, justifying his entries of prototype sports-racing cars. Production began in his West Palm Beach plant where his team of mechanics installed 331-cubic-inch Chrysler hemi V-8s in Cunningham C-2R racing chassis. These were shipped to Turin, Italy to be fitted with aluminum and steel bodies by coachbuilder Vignale, after which they were returned to the Florida plant for completion. There were 25 Continental C3s produced: 20 coupes and five convertibles. They sold for $8,000 to $12,000. Notable owners included Nelson Rockefeller and Jay Leno recently completed an extensive restoration on a C3. All 25 cars still exist. (Sourced Wikipedia). This one at EVS Institute, Naples, FL

Three Aces...

...but more likely than not, two are replicas. The Lotus Eleven looks to be a Westfield. The GTO has roll down windows instead of sliding split units where the upper rear window corners should be rounded and not at a 90 degree angle as is seen in this car. Additionally the wire wheels don't appear to be the same design as was in use by Ferrari at the time. Regardless, a fun sight to see.

1969 206 Dino.  I fell in love with the looks of this series the very first time I saw one.  Same goes for the similar Porsche 904, the first one of which I saw was driven by Brigs Cunningham and Lake Underwood to a class win at Sebring.  The 904 was on the floor of Lake's South orange, NJ Air Cooled Motors, which later added Audi to its offerings
