Help!

Since installing firmware 2.024 on my M8, I can’t write images to my card, the red light flashes endlessly. Do I need to update my dad card/ write speed?

many thanks

Welcome here,

If the red light flashing too long, or never shut off, it means SD card failure.

Take the battery out to halt it flashing, then format the SD card in a computer or put in another SD card.

What have you done exactly ?

Can you describe some details like the number on the LCD which is on the top, warning or not at the rear LCD when you take out the SD, when you push "menu", what you see,

capacity of the SD card and type when it's in a computer, etc. ?

The more details is best to be able to help.

I have only used SanDisk 4 and 8gb SDHC cards in the M8, early on I did have a failure with the card that came with the camera. Found some new 8gb cards on Amazon and they have been fine, an 8gb card will give you 760 frames, and the counter only goes to 1000. Always good to reformat your card after an upgrade.

SanDisk have always been amongst the most reliable in an M8 series.

Currently I am using 16GB Ultra 48MB/s what is important is the card series these are SDHC 1 there is another identifier of the card, a number in a broken circle, this is the card class, earlier SanDisk 16GB SDHC 1 were marked as 4, my current cards are Series 10 and are working well. All these parameters are important for compatibility. Modern firmware will recognise a card that is too fast and will usually revert to a lower speed and work, the M8 series is not running modern firmware and will probably just fall down if you push out of the speed/size zone it will see.

The frame counter goes to 999 as noted above on these 16GB cards and will only move to a true count when the capacity remaining is below that but in use this is not an issue.

At one time supplies of these older cards were rather scarce but they seem to have come back and are inexpensive these days, worth a try: https://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-Ultra-SDHC-Class-Memory/dp/B0143RTA88/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=Ultra+SDHC+sandisk+16gb&qid=1591430602&sr=8-7

I paid 7 UK pounds in 2018 so they have come down a little.

Always, as noted above, reformat in camera and do not use the either the delete button or the protect button on the camera this can confuse the card indexing even on a reformat.
