gdi Posted March 14, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 14, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just received a “10” grade used M10 Monochrom. It looks new with some slight handling smudges, except I noticed it has a poorly fitted body cover/skin. Has anyone received one of these with a sloppily applied cover like this? I think eventually it could start peeling. See the photo. thanks! Welcome, dear visitor! I’ve owned 20+ Leica bodies and haven’t had any issues like this. My recommendation is to either return it or ask for a discount. If the seller was willing to lie about the condition, who know what else could be wrong with it.

Thanks, I don't know if I would say they are lying - it is a major, very reputable, retailer (BH Photo). It was sold as used as Used at a fairly large discount, so the slight smudges make sense , but I am not sure the covering flaw is acceptable.
a.noctilux Posted March 14, 2020 Share #4 Posted March 14, 2020 (edited) I'd just take a screwdriver blade to gently push those "flaws" in place. End of story. Then the most important, go to photographing with this splendid instrument to make images. Edited March 14, 2020 by a.noctilux 2
lykaman Posted March 15, 2020 Share #5 Posted March 15, 2020 Your Camera Your Money - The retailer will take it back & credit you.. IMHO - it will always bug you.. There are plenty of Nice 10 Cameras around.. L 2
a.noctilux Posted March 15, 2020 Share #6 Posted March 15, 2020 Hello Lykaman, M10 Monochrom is not yet so "plenty", even less in second hand. As this is so small cosmetic flaw, I'd not even bother with it. If important thing is "photography", my suggestion is to keep it for what it is built.

And you are right - this was the first used one I have seen and it saved me around $1300 so I jumped on it! Thanks
Herr Barnack Posted March 15, 2020 Share #9 Posted March 15, 2020 (edited) @gdi If you keep it and send it in for service a few years down the road, you can always have this flaw repaired or have the camera re-covered which will cost a lot less than the $1300 you saved... Thanks So, while you did not, you could have sent it in for service, maybe even with no cost because the body is so new, and still saved. $1300 is a great discount on a body that is not easily found to purchase new yet! I'd say great buy! 1

I'd say great buy! Thanks, David. It doesn't really bother me that much, especially since it could be largely put back in place easily. I did get a short warranty from the seller, but I have heard that Leica Solms may be willing to honor the warranty even though US customers get a bad deal on the transfer of warranties. But that means shipping overseas and I'll reserve that for bigger problems.

Leica M cameras and lenses are warrantied regardless of owner or place of purchase from their date of manufacture or date of purchase from an authorized dealer (if you happen to have the receipt) for 2 and 3 years, respectively. If it was originally sold at one of Leica's Boutiques then it's warrantied from the date of sale, which will be later than date of manufacture, and a receipt isn't required as Leica NJ can look up the records. Concur. If you later send it in for a CLA, they rip the skin off the camera as part of the drill (to expose the bits they might need to adjust), and install a new skin before it's shipped back to you.
