I have used all of them - M9, M240, M10, SL and SL2. Nothing comes close to M cameras for M lenses. To me, since I don't shoot high ISOs, a used M240 is the best value for M digital today and doesn't give up anything compared to M10 in image quality. Unless shooting wildlife from far away, an M with a 35 and 85 or 90 makes for a very portable travel kit. Thanks Ravinj. I was using the M(240) since 2017 until Feb 2020. Indeed my primary concerns when getting the SL was form factor and the leica look i get from shooting with M lenses on the M240. I must say the SL comes really close after 2 months of limited SL use.
Advertisement Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 Hi northernlights, Take a look here M240 or SL ..again. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cnguyen Posted July 13, 2020 Share #22 Posted July 13, 2020 I have a solution for you... I have and M240P with attached EVF. I use the EVF for long lenses/closeups and RF for my normals, wides and super wides. The SL body is pretty cheap now BUT it is too big like SLRs - I have considered it in the past. My longest M lenses are the 90s and the 135s and they focus just fine with RF so I hardly use the EVF. For quick AFs I use my Leica TL with the 11-23 and 18-56 when you don't need background blur.. FWIW

FWIW Thanks. I used the M240 with the EVF before in 2017 and i even shot birds with the M240 and Nikon AFS 300mm f4 IF-ED. I didn’t like the EVF though. The SL is 187g more than the M240 and can do everything the M240 can do except give me the RF feel which i like very much. The SL is however, larger dimensionally and definitely less compact vs the M240. Welcome, dear visitor! I didn’t lose money. I like the compactness although the M’s are not light. I have been looking at the SL for a number of years and am so close to getting one (can be tomorrow). I visited the leica boutique and played with the SL with my M lens and cheap Fotasy M-TL adaptor ($25 in Amazon). Photos were sharp. I was impressed with the EVF and I will get more hits and less misses. Framing is also easier. i know the SL is just 187g heavier than the M. Yet, each and everytime, it was the size and seemingly lack of connection that holds me back. I have read every forum, review i can lay my eyes on in Steve Huff, reviews, this forum, etc what is wrong with me? which shall i get? I would like the M10 at some point. But it is not within my budget. I reckon i will be able to get one when M11 comes about. Given also I am a so so photographer. Not the exceptional kind like some of you. The one thing I am certain about, you will eventually go back to the M. The SL will prove too huge, too heavy and the size of the M-10 is just too appealing as a general walkabout street camera. Resistance is futile.
northernlights Posted July 17, 2020 Author Share #27 Posted July 17, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I purposely got a 24-90 as my ‘commitment’ (skin in the game) to the SL. Not sure how much that would help. Lol. But the flexibility of using zoom and AF during recent indoor event tells me the SL is very flexible. But if for street photography which is my favourite, I think the 24-90 would be too glaring and too heavy combo. I keep reminding myself the SL is but 187g and plus the RRS bracket at 99g would be ‘just’ 290g more over the M240. But in reality, the form factor tells. The SL is quite a bit larger than the M240 which is denser.
