Do all M9 Original Sensors Fail?

It's certainly one possibility.

Another possibility is that the poster in question has got their dates wrong and the 'failed' sensor / cover was replaced by another still of the original style.

If the poster is sure of the dates then the story falls apart. As the 2nd Gen. sensor / sensor cover didn't suffer from the corrosion which plagued so many of the 'original' M9 cameras there was, stating the obvious, no reason whatsoever for Leica to develop a 3rd Gen sensor. Unless, of course, Leica developed a 3rd Gen. sensor because the 2nd Gen sensor was a POS but didn't fit it to any other camera than that owned by the P-I-Q; hastily developed Mk. III and didn't tell anyone apart form the P-I-Q.

I'd really like to hear some confirmation from Leica themselves on this one. Until such time, however......

I feel your pain - but, at the risk of depressing you - a care point..  ..I had an M7. After reading that sunlight entering the front of the lens can damage the shutter blind, I kept the lens cover on. I ran a roll of Tri-X through the camera. Almost all of the images were under-exposed. I tried HP5. Much the same. Even the latest generation of colour Kodak didn’t solve the problem. I feel like complaining to Leica, but I’m worried they will just wash their hands of the situation. You are lucky.

I have had an M7 for many years and it is an amazing camera for me, in fact I liked shooting with it more, the discreet shutter noise, lighter etc.

Mine, now my spouse's M9 since 2010, always the original sensor and never seen the infamous spots on sensor.

Some days ago, as I've seen the upgrade offering by Leica, I wanted to know if the spots corrosion came, I cross my fingers, not yet seen suspicious spots.
