So I recently acquired a M10-M and experienced the same issue. Panic at first but worked out that it is the shutter button surround coming loose.

I've previously taken the shutter button apart on my M9 so I'm not afraid to poke around. The M10-M shutter button comes out in one assembly. You can see that if the surround is loose and unscrewed a bit, the shutter pin will not reach the shutter button in the camera.

Interestingly there are three metal shims between the shutter button assembly and the body. It's required for the on off switch to work but if you remove one, it seems to make the shutter button sit higher.

See this pic for an explanation.  It's just a part that is threaded on and sits on top of on / off switch.  If it loosens (i.e. turns counter clockwise), it sits higher and prevents you from fully engaging the shutter button.  You have to grab it and turn clockwise (without grabbing the on/off switch).

Thanks. I got an M10M in December and will keep thin in mind just in case.

On further investigation, you can't remove any of the shims as it makes the on/off switch harder to move. Instead, you can turn the silver disc on the shutter assembly counter-clockwise to loosen it a bit and it will make the shutter button higher up.
