Tailwagger Posted February 21, 2020 Share #41 Posted February 21, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) It somewhat pains me to say it, but having just received my copy of the SL-35 and this past weekend shot it side by side with the Lumix 16-35, from an acuity POV there isn't a huge gulf between the two. The SL-35 is far better w.r.t. to CA, build quality, speed and yes, it is ever so slightly more detailed across the entire frame. I'd wager the L 16-35mm closes the gap even further if your of a mind to spend to that level. The Lumix is far lighter and cheaper than either and there is the highly touted Sigma 14-24 as well to consider. I too have shunned zooms for quite a while now, but I have to say, while I still prefer what I've come to term the 'stoicism of primes', from a performance standpoint that attitude, not to mention the price tag associated with it, is getting harder to justify. I have a similar dilemma to you. Having promised myself only one of the SL Primes I'm really struggling to decide which one☺️! Just one prime? This one is permanently attached to my SL2...unbelievably good. Welcome, dear visitor! Absolutely agree, best 35mm lens I've ever used and I currently have the 35 Lux FLE as well. The 35 APO pairs beautifully with the 75 APO SL for a fantastic two lens travel kit that covers most scenarios. Great minds must think alike😉 - I have the same pairing - and am completely happy - the final lens (for me) will be the 21 when it comes out.

Can you give me an idea of the kinds of pictures you like to take? I do three types of image making 1. Happy snaps of family, friends and the environment I live in and around ( like everyone else); 2. Street ; and 3. Sometimes I have my arm twisted and do editorial type commercial shoots in fashion and movie stills - because I have friends in these industries. Here are three recent examples of recent shots with the 35 Cron on SL2 I've only had the 35mm for a couple of weeks...but the lens is very versatile on the SL2: Welcome, dear visitor! And the 24-90 is just way too big for my liking. i actually love the way the SL primes feel on the SL. Try the Sigma 24-70 zoom, it’s very solid. The Panasonic 50/1.4 shows higher test results than the 75 SL APO (which surprised me, see pcmag.com’s tests). also the 28 Art is about the size of the Summicrons and probably as sharp. I tested against the 35 Cron and kept the 28 Art. Both are very sharp but the Art was $1200 and has a MF switch plus a focus hold button. im wondering now if the Sigma 85/1.4 Art is sharper than the 90/2 Summicron... The206 Posted February 28, 2020 Author Share #49 Posted February 28, 2020 Panasonic announced 3 new primes coming out between 2020 and 2021. 24 1.8 50 1.8 85 1.8 This is great news, count on them being cheaper then any of the SL lenses, lighter, faster aperture and more compact. Will probably be cheaper to buy all three of these versus 1 SL prime. Sure sure I know the SL primes are amazing and glazed with unicorn tears but I will gladly take the smaller and lighter lens any day of the week!
