traveler11 Posted February 6, 2020 Share #3 Posted February 6, 2020 It is a Beaucarnia recurvata, ponytail palm. I never expected to see one, here. I have been growing mine since 1978. It is my most prized plant, a 7.5 ft house tree. Welcome, dear visitor! If it is to retire (like us), Algarve is a must : Sun and all facilities, international airport with daily connections with most European capitals. We visited most of Portugal since the mid-seventies and first retired (in 1993, I was 59) in Alentejo, where we had acquired a very big property in 1978 and where we discovered a friendly "middle age" society in a desertic region. But at 70, it had become too tiring living there and we moved to "civilized" Algarve, where we are perfectly happy.
Pecole Posted February 9, 2020 Author Share #7 Posted February 9, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks a lot, traveler11. I am surprised to find this tree outside, even if the climate in Algarve, South Portugal, is "mediterranean". Ours dates early 2000ths and seems to be vigorous and in perfect condirion. Judy and I are definitely shopping and planning a trip to your recommended area next Winter. We are 73 and 74. Kindest Regards. Al Gage
