I have just purchased a brand new CL with the 18mm lens from a dealer.  The firmware version is 1.0.  I downloaded from the Leica English language site an update file named CL__31_(4).lfu

My SD card has been formatted both in camera and using SD Formatter.  The battery is fully charged.  I have carefully followed the Installation Instructions.  However every attempt at updating results in a miilisecond view of half a cogwheel and then nothing happens.  I have tried with and without the lens attached. Because the problem looks as though the camera is having trouble reading the file I also tried renaming the update file by deleting the "_(4)".and by using a different card to no avail.

Any thoughts about ways to deal with this problem would be appreciated

I have sorted this problem out .  It seems that my various attempts at downloading the update file did not produce a complete file.  My umpteenth download attempt took a long time to download but finally has worked.

The regular name of this file is CL___31_.lfu so you should have deleted "(4)" instead of "_(4)" i suspect. Congrats for having sorted the problem out anyway.

If you are using a Mac, multiple downloads will gain a suffix on the main body of the filename of '-X', where X is incremented on each copy. (See the picture below for an example of this.)

For example, if you are trying to update your M9 to version 1.138, the filename on your SD card must be m9-1_138.upd exactly.

Other computer systems may have different ways of dealing with multiple downloads. If your camera does not recognise the update file at all, then it is possible that multiple downloads have caused a suffix to be added to the '.upd' part of the filename.

If you are unsure as to how to rename these files so that they will be recognised correctly, then you may be advised to delete them all from your computer and do a fresh download to ensure that you get the correct filenames.
