Got an old Leica lens with the M39 thread and would like to attach it to my M7 via an adapter.

It looks like the adapter adds approx 0.9mm of thickness to the face of the Lens.

Q: How does that affect the focus and does the viewfinder works?

Or doesn't it just not work?

Thanks

Preben

I've been using LTM->M adapters for a couple of years. Most work just fine. I always double checked with a ground glass (actually a shimmed SLR focus screen) and loupe at the film plane to validate the RF and actual focus of the adapted lens were identical. I did find one which was ever so slightly off, so its now used only on my m4/3 body.

LTM has 28,8mm distance between lens flange and film plane. When designing M3 the usage of LTM lenses was considered and Ms are built with 27,8mm distance. With an adapter the LTM lens focuses perfectly with correct rangefinder coupling

I have an M39 35mm summaron which I have mounted with a Leica adapter and it focuses fine on my M9 as well as my M2 and MP but while I was waiting to find a proper Leica adapter I got a cheapo one from eBay and that wasn't good, it was very tight to mount on to the camera so I decided not to use it.
