As best as I can tell, the red dot on my Q2 is 1 cm. diameter;  I'm not sure if this size is standardized between M and Q cameras, though.

This guy has black dots for sale normally but is out at the moment:  http://www.leitax.com/Accesories-for-Leica-M-cameras5.html

You could also try DAG camera repair (608-835-3342) or Sherry Krauter.

Does anyone have an idea where to get a black Leica dot for the Q2? I’ve checked all known sources and google but can‘t find it anywhere available.

Oh I haven‘t seen that. I asked Leica CS if they could provide one. If not I would come back to you.

The CS came back to me: They are not allowed to give away those black dots as it is a registered trademark of leica geosystems or anything like that. @MikeTaylor may we get in touch for your offered black dot?

Call me weird (it’s not going to be the first time!) but unless one lives in a place that street violence runs rampant, I don’t see the point of all this attempt to mask / hide the fact that this is a Leica. It is an understated piece of kit anyway with only a red dot that means something to a connoisseur: either a fellow photographer (hardly a threat) or a thief who knows that this is a Leica, red dot or not… Of course, it is no skin off my back and we are all entitled to do as we please with our cameras anyway:)

A very valid point - yes,  bigger cameras like a Canon 1DX models will give a perception of being more expensive than a regular Leica just mostly to shear size and looking professional  (which is indeed they are geared to). Often heard people saying terms like "fancy camera", "looks expensive" ...and other topicals regarding the Canon, and only "looks cute", "it's that a film camera?" regarding the Leica.

Location plays a lot, but so does owner's pose, overall looks including clothing (and camera bag). Act like you carrying an expensive gear item, and the "wolfs" will notice that

Gaffers tape will be the easiest and simplest solution if it concerns one so much - beyond is just really about ownership pride :D
