dan_drabek Posted August 7, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) This guy landed about ten feet away when I was eating lunch by the ocean today. The shot is poorly composed, but I just wanted to show how nicely a $300 camera can perform at the extreme telephoto end of it's Leica-designed 12x zoom lens. FX8 @ f/4.5.-- digital equivalent of 450mnm SLR lens.

psquared Posted August 7, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 7, 2007 DD, Love the great focus, details and sharpness. This fellow looks sullen, though. Perhaps because you didn't share your lunch with him? Peter

dan_drabek Posted August 7, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted August 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks gents for your comments. Peter, of course he got some of my sandwich. He's eyeballing it in the picture. I cut off the end of his tail, unfortunately, and the pose is more of a mug shot than an artistic rendering, but it has good detail and dimensionality and the color is very accurate straight from the camera. A very fine little lens for the money. DD

mgcd Posted August 9, 2007 Share #12 Posted August 9, 2007 So did you give him a part of your lunch? Menacingly sharp! Cheers,
dan_drabek Posted August 9, 2007 Author Share #13 Posted August 9, 2007 Yes, Conrad. I was afraid if I didn't that he would call his bird friends over and they would peck out my demonically accurate, unbelievably clear and menacingly sharp lenses. carylwithay Posted August 12, 2007 Share #14 Posted August 12, 2007 Wonderful detail. I had tried those Panasonics but had lots of trouble. I tried 3 and gave up. The focus was off on one and other problems in the other 2 so I got a little Canon as a pocket camera. Glad to see they can really function if you get a good one. I guess their quality control is not up to snuff. Caryl
