Four years ago I bought 2 or 3 bottles of DD-X in anticipation of getting stuck into some Ilford Delta once I'd finished all my Neopan 400. The Neopan has taken longer to use up than I expected but the time draws nearer (just two more cassettes to shoot) to my Delta dipping. I have realised my DD-X is a couple of years past it's Use By date. The bottles are unopened. I'm going to try it anyway but do you think it will be OK?

Looking for reassurance.

I'm in the same boat, a bottle (or two perhaps?) that I bought when I got some film from offshore. I've stuck with my regular, R09 and whatever film I have in at the time, but eventually want to try the DD-X. I'm concerned that it may not be as economical as the R09, but still want to try it and see.

I think your unopened bottle(s) will be just fine, it will be more once you open that the "life" starts.

This is a really nice photo !

Did you try DD-X with 35mm Tri-x? Mine did not come so nice when I tried 🙈.

Could you share how you process Tri-x in dd-x?

I really like it with Delta 400 and 3200...

No, but I would expect the grain to be more noticeable for obvious reasons. What was the problem you found?

I just did the usual 1+4 for 8mins at 20C. I agitated continuously for about 30 secs in the first minute, then 5 inversions every minute after.

I metered the TriX at 400.

Thanks for the info. I usually meter at 200 and develop at 400.

There was nothing really wrong, I just found it to look a bit odd. I do not really know why... I enclose a sample. Not a great shot. Looking at it again now, I like it a bit more... I guess I simply like it more in id-11. Maybe, I should do the post-processing differently.

In any case, thanks a lot for the info. I might give it another try. My film development is more stable now. I was not controlling the temperature so well when I developed this.

Why waste your time and money?  Any results will not apply to fresh product.  And even if it works just opened,  it may age rapidly.

Delta 400 works well in DDX or Kodak T Max.  Garden variety developers are poor with that film.  Delta 100 is older formulation and works with D76 that I mix from scratch.
