Thank you for your posts.  Good idea! We will see if Camera West can be a host for a meetup.  It would be extremely helpful if someone who is in San Francisco helped out with things like sending emails and keeping track of responses.   We can provide an email list of local members.  Our administrator, Richard Rejino, will help out of course, but having someone "on the ground" is very helpful.  Please PM me if you are interested and we will get the ball rolling.

As for an official LHSA annual or spring meeting, we last had one in San Francisco in 2014 and there is a general rule of 10 years before a host city is repeated.  We had a meeting in Vancouver in 2016 and the 2020 annual meeting will be in Seattle.  The Spring shoot in 2020 is Colorado Springs.  More info is on the website.

Can it be confirmed that ALL forum members would be welcome at this meeting, not just LHSA members?

Yes. If there is a SF meetup, it would be organized with help from LHSA but open to others, who, I would hope, would thereafter consider joining LHSA.  For official regularly scheduled meetings (Annual Meeting and Spring Shoot), they are generally members-only.

It seems like the LHSA would like to turn the forum meeting into a marketing opportunity.  Personally I think that would dampen my ardour a little.

Sheesh Pete.  If we help organize a meeting, is it really inappropriate to take one minute out to ask people to think about joining the organization?  That's all I ever envisioned.  Look at my post.  I said I hoped people would thereafter consider joining.  Nothing heavy handed about that.  In fact, I'd like you to consider joining as I think you could add a lot, so I'll offer you a deal:  I'll personally pay for 6 months of membership, after which you can decide whether to continue.  How about it?   PM me if you are interested.

Hi Alan,

No insult or offence intended and I was simply commenting on how the thread has developed.  If potential attendees are content for LHSA to take over organising the meeting then that's fine of course.  I'm a little circumspect of latent marketing techniques (for unconnected reasons) and I accept that this is not how LHSA goes about its business.

Thank you for your very kind and gracious offer which I won't take up.  I was a LHSA member some years ago but let my membership lapse as it didn't suit my needs.

Pete.

Nobody volunteered to organize, so we have stepped up.  Camera West has agreed to host a meetup for any and all.   Stand by here for more information as we find a date, etc.  Most likely will be March-April timeframe.

The SF meetup is now set, thanks to great work from the people at Leica Store SF and Leica.  Here is  a link with a description of the plans and way to rsvp:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/leica-store-san-francisco-photography-event-tickets-95482114575

The meetup will run from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Leica Store SF, 463 Bush Street, San Francisco CA

There will be photo walks with Leica pro specialist Ray Olson; a strobe lighting session with a model, a printer onsite (with one free gallery print per attendee), all photo books will be 25% off, and all attendees who are not already LHSA members will be offered a free one year digital membership.  There will also be demos of Leica gear, including M10 Monochrom.

For questions, please contact Leica Store San Francisco: (415) 801-5066
