Is there any visible difference ON FILM between an older version Summarit 35mm vs the newer version currently available?

I also noticed that the older ones, such as serial number 4049240 use E39 filters while the recent version uses E46.

Any other differences you know of? What are your experiences of the two versions?

Thank you,

Rino

Hello Rino,

May I think that there are not many people who use(d) the two types of Summarit-M 35mm on FILM, these day.

The answer could be simply try one of them, then judge from the results.

The 2.4/35 newer has asph. lens somewhere and does mention this in the front ID.

At first, I wanted to know the differences but never found the right answer myself.

The E46 filter size and bigger front of lens to accept newer design hood (tiny front lens as the older model) is the obvious.

In Leica litterature, I've seen mixed up ( or no change) of FTM curves and distortion figure of 2.4 and 2.5 Summarit-M.

I'm happy owner/user of the "old" 2.5/35, right on film and sensors.

I've never need to "upgrade" to 2.4/35, the results of the older Summarit-M (35/50/75) are as good as I hope.

As mentioned in the Leica blog, the 35/2.4 Summarit has the same optical design as the 35/2.5 with tighter tolerances and both have one aspherical element. MTF graphs look similar with slightly better results out the 35/2.4 lens as per Leica Technical data hereafter.
