Tinbird Posted January 2, 2020 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Happy New Year, all, SL2 quandary: Main Menu (tab 5) > Panning Mode > Auto Panning. "Auto Panning" is subdued grey and therefore not selectable. The other three options (Normal; Vertical Panning; Horizontal Panning) are each white font and selectable. I've tried every permutation of AF Operating mode and AF Metering mode selection, plus two different native SL lenses. No luck. Can anyone else duplicate this, or offer resolution? Could this be a slightly premature trace of a future firmware enhancement (like the fabled 187 MP "Multi Shot" mode)? Page 92 in the SL2 Instruction Manual refers (but wasn't much help to me)... ~ Tinbird IMG_20200102_061214.jp2

Focusing -> Focus Mode -> MF is greyed out only when using a lens that has an AF/MF switch (e.g. Sigma 45mm) and the lens is set to AF. If I switch to MF on the lens then the whole Focusing -> Focus Mode is disabled. Logic: since AF/MF happens on the lens, the appropriate options are disabled in the body.

When using the Summicrons it’s also greyed out though, is it for fully MF lenses without an AF function? It says “MF mode: standard”, what other modes are there in this sub menu? thanks! With M lenses, "Focus Mode" is disabled. MF Settings (Standard MF) is greyed out as it is a feature that will be added in 2020 firmware update (see EN manual, page 11). I didn’t realize it was coming in firmware update. Will see manual reference noted above. Thank you! edit: my page 11 in the English manual shows diff info. What’s the reference again plz? scott kirkpatrick Posted January 4, 2020 Share #9 Posted January 4, 2020 "MF setup" refers to the choice of a variable response to turning the manual focus ring on an L lens, which is focus-by-wire. I had thought that the alternative is when the speed with which the lens changes focus is faster when you turn abruptly (that has been normal) then when you turn gently. But video folks prefer a linear, more predictable response, and what the early firmware upgrade appears to provide is a range of linear MF rates, ranging from quarter turn for full movement to full turn = full movement.. Just for clarification, I looked at panning and focus mode just now, first with an M lens on the Leica adapter, then with an L lens without and with OIS. M prime: on the quickmenu it says MF, but is greyed out since you can't change it; focusing > AF Mode > face detect (but it doesn't detect faces). Focus mode and MF setup are greyed out. L Prime (no OIS): AF modes can be chosen from the quickmenu; focusing> focus mode works except for MF setup, which is grey; Panning mode has just normal and Auto. 90-280 Leica zoom, which has OIS: All focus controls available except MF setup; Panning offers Normal, vertical and horizontal. (does that mean than only OIS is being used, and the previous firmware is handling it, without involving the IBIS?)
