Luca Posted December 23, 2019 Share #1  Posted December 23, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got my SL2 on 19 Dec and 21Dec went to shoot for a friends wedding. Well Ibis it was a game changer , there were low light conditions and it was raining heavily. With SL most shots would be different either not possible at all.Pics using low shutter speed are crisp and perfect. I was under heavy rains shooting outside with only my Borsalino  and my SL2, and I took amazing shots without any problem. The professional photographer who was there instead was trying to protect his Sony under the umbrella 😂. I used my vario 24-90 and Summicron sl 50 ; with this last one I took some shots @ f2 which are really impressive as people seem like to come out from the photo. I kept using the camera as from 8.00 am unto 23.00 with no issue; only problem it happened after 2 hours in the church when camera evf went totally black ; had to switch off camera and unlock and relock vario lens to have everything working again. Not sure if I did something wrong but it is worth to mention it. No issue with the grip; I used 4 batteries .SL2 was always on. Had my q2 with me, took only a few shots.
Advertisement Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Hi Luca, Take a look here SL2 at a wedding. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ajmarton1 Posted December 23, 2019 Share #2  Posted December 23, 2019 I hope the water proofing is better. I took my SL to Bali with the 24-90mm and after a half day of shooting in drizzle the body and lens both needed to be repaired in NJ and the body in Germany. It was an expensive lesson. Be careful if you travel to exotic locations as the humidity got into the lens and EVF. After the repairs I sold the SL. Currently very happy with the Sony A7R IV which is weather sealed. Yes, weather sealing in SL2 has been upgraded to IP54 standard. Jeff

You weren’t wearing anything else? vor 3 Stunden schrieb Luca: The professional photographer who was there instead was trying to protect his Sony under the umbrella 😂. The Sony is designed so it can be shot one handed for this reason. With an umbrella, it’s rated IP55 (Protected from high pressure water jets from above). 😂

What LCD/EVF mode did you use (Auto, EVF Extended, ...)?

Interesting. I have, literally, hosed the sand off my SL, several times with no issues. (We have lots of beach weddings here.) I even remember the Leica team pouring glasses of water over the camera at the launch event. My cameras would have been in poor weather over several dozen times with no problems. My Sonys have always had suspect claims of water protection but usually missing an o-ring around the bottom plate. I do not own the mk IV though and have not looked into it. But the mkIII has NOT weathersealed properly. The SL2 is supposed to be better than the SL. And the SL was regarded as one of the best weather sealed cameras of it's day. At D5 levels. Gordon p.s. Thanks for the report. Especially on the battery life. Seems similar to using the SL at a wedding for about the same amount of time.

I ment I never switched it off; it was in default power saving; LCD/EVF were at default settings.

jonoslack Posted December 26, 2019 Share #12  Posted December 26, 2019 Thanks for this Luca I have a wedding to shoot this Saturday - no grip, but I do have 2 bodies and plenty of batteries - sadly my zoom is being repaired, so I'm going to be shooting just with primes (eek). But the 50 APO SL will be the main work horse (and there's lots of croppability). As for weather sealing, I've taken my old SL through storms and torrential rain in Cornwall without issue - the SL2 has been in pretty severe conditions as well. No Issues.  best Jono

Jeff Hi Jeff Apparently, some of the very early lenses didn't have the screws on the zoom sleeve fixed properly and they come loose . . . locking the zoom ring completely. It's four (three?) years old and they're fixing it for me, so that's cool. Â
