How did you update Sigma 45 f/2.8 using SL? Sigma's site has only instructions for updating using "Sigma fp" camera. Thanks!

AFAIK, you need Panasonic cameras to update Panasonic lenses, Leica cameras to update Leica lenses.

Sigma has an USB dock to update. their lenses directly.

You don't need the Sigma dock.  The L mount alliance companies worked together on this, and Leica updated the SL firmware accordingly.  My SL on FW3.6 updated the FW on the Sigma 45/2.8 and Panasonic 70-200/4, from an SD card with the new lens FW downloaded from the Sigma and Panasonic sites - just as if they were Leica lenses.

+1. Same with me; no problem to update non-Leica L-lenses from a Leica body.

Hello, I just had this problem when I purchased a Panasonic 1.4x teleconverter for the Panasonic L mount 70-200 f4. My Leica SL2S came up with the “lens firmware update” needed message.

Firmware can be downloaded here. I’m using a Mac.

https://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/ff/dl/r70200.html

Process used:-

E&OE !

Formatted SD card 1 in SL2S. Turned off the camera and removed the SD card.

Removed SD card 2 too (just in case)

Copied the firmware update downloaded at the link above to the root of the SD card, using my Mac to do this.

Replaced the SD card with the new firmware in slot 1 of the SL2S. Turned the camera back on. Left the 2nd SD card out of the camera for now (just in case).

Navigated to the LENS firmware update option in the camera menus (you’ll see, for example, the lens firmware version is showing as v1.0 and you are updating to v1.1 to use the teleconverter). Selected update firmware option.

The update process took longer than expected but it did finish eventually and asked for the camera to be restarted. Did this, and reformatted the SD card for use.

Turned off the camera again. Installed the SD card in slot 2 as well, so both SD cards were now back in the camera. Reformatted the SD card in slot 2 too, so both SD cards were now ready for use with no stored images.

Turned off the camera.

Installed the 1.4x teleconverter between the lens and the camera body.

Turned on the camera.

All worked fine (or seems to so far), which is a relief!

Hope this helps.

It took me forever but the answer was simple. Just take the plf file and copy it to the root level of your memory card. Next put the memory card in your camera and it will recognize the update firmware for the lens. I don’t know why people don’t just answer the question.
