A deep whish from more than me... you can always get the Sigma 400mm f5.6 and use the conversion service to L mount https://www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/cas/service/mcs/
AlanJW Posted December 12, 2019 Share #23 Posted December 12, 2019 I can guarantee you will enjoy Peter's presentation. He has a wonderful set of slides on lens design and is rightfully proud of some of their recent L mount designs. I saw it in Wetzlar a year ago at the LHSA meeting where Peter ran over his allotted time -- to cheers from the audience, who didn't want it to stop.

No, L-mount conversion is not available for this lens. Currently, the longest lens available in L-mount is the SL 90-280, and 280mm is rather short for many applications. List of Sigma lenses with mount conversion to L-mount, from the link above: Currently, the following lenses from those three product lines (Contemporary, Art, Sports) are eligible for this service. lik Posted December 12, 2019 Author Share #26 Posted December 12, 2019 Ouf - thanks for your questions. A lot of them are the similar to mine. It's quite a lot. But I'll do my very best. I'll make a list and try to hand it over to the store before the even starts.

helged Posted December 12, 2019 Share #28 Posted December 12, 2019 For clarification, here are the Sigma lenses that can be converted to L-mount (from the link under "Currently, the following lenses from those three product lines (Contemporary, Art, Sports) are eligible for this service", on https://www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/cas/service/mcs/): Welcome, dear visitor! Also, why it’s impossible to get the 35/50 Summicrons. Thanks. Check euro Leica stores. Just ordered a 50/2 SL. They seem to be flush with SL lenses. Leica decided to not allocate the US with enough stock, or Is Leica just waiting for the tariff to be removed or worked out by the politicians ? An updated roadmap would be great (we are a year behind the release of the 28 SL and wide angle primes, according to the 2016 SL1-era lens road map.). Ask him though about the jump forward in technology or lens design theory that happened between the release of the 75/2 SL (and zooms ;$;5and the set of the 50/2 and 35/2 SL. Why did Leica use additional aspherics and decide to aim for higher MTF goals? What was the paradigm shift in SL lens design that motivated the evolution? Was it the creation of the L mount alliance and thus competition for the space on the front of Leica L cameras? Was it a breakthrough in manufacturing, or otherwise in “Theory” (lens design theory that is)?
LocalHero1953 Posted December 12, 2019 Share #30 Posted December 12, 2019 Back to questions: Does Leica co-ordinate its L-mount lens portfolio with other members of the consortium? E.g. there's been some discussion here about why Sigma has been able to produce a high quality small standard lens (45mm f2.8), but Leica has kept, so far, to the larger format Summicron line. Do consortium members try to avoid direct competition in lenses?
mmx_2 Posted December 12, 2019 Share #31 Posted December 12, 2019 1.What is Peter Karbe's view on a compact long tele lens using fresnel elements? Like Nikon PF 300 and PF 500 (both excellent). 2. Are there any other plans for longer telephoto lenses for SL-mount? 600mm f4-f5.6 would be welcome for the bird shooter 3. Any plans for an Apo-Extender for the SL-mount? SrMi Posted December 12, 2019 Share #32 Posted December 12, 2019 What is Peter Karbe's view on software distortion correction (SDC)? It seems that with higher resolution sensors SDC works better. Will future Leica's lenses increasingly require SDC (aka smaller and lighter lenses), or will they not?
Guest Posted December 12, 2019 Share #33 Posted December 12, 2019 1. Any new TL-lenses planned? (most recent lens released was over 2 years ago, only 1 lens released in the last 3 years...) 2. Any chances of an Elmarit-M 28mm type of lens for the SL that is tiny but optically excellent?
Arrow Posted December 12, 2019 Share #34 Posted December 12, 2019 (edited) Any plans for an auto focus L-mount Noctilux 50 0.95 finally corrected for purple fringing issues? Edited December 12, 2019 by Arrow

Do consortium members try to avoid direct competition in lenses? They do not coordinate. They are competitors and my understanding is all that is shared is the L mount technology. After that, all of the L mount companies are on their own. They can choose individually to make or not make products that are directly competitive (such as the Panasonic bodies) but they do not decide as a group who is going to make which lenses. Sigma may have seen an opportunity with its 45mm because there was nothing in Leica's lineup that matched it, but that would be a Sigma business decision and not one coordinated with Leica -- or Panasonic for that matter. If they did coordinate, they would have some thorny legal problems, by the way.

caissa Posted December 13, 2019 Share #40 Posted December 13, 2019 Sigma is producing also for E-mount, I would even say mainly for E-mount (compared to L-mount). (and EF and some Nikon) (if I take numbers into account) Tamron is probably more important as competitor than Leica or Panasonic.
