Funny, but the first time I watched I came away with the same impression...I think it was his reluctance to answer at first that deflected his actual statement. But after watching it again, he clearly said it's the best lens ever made. And after owning the lens, I can just say WOW. Its the best lens Ive ever owned or used.

The important part to me was the further explanation of how size limitations, or lack thereof, impact the ability of lens designers to work their magic.  In this old interview with Karbe regarding development of the 50 M Summilux, we see the flip size of how size limitations can present enormous challenges.

Just to come back to the topic of the thread opener: since today lightroom (and the other adobe sw) supports the SL2 (read original source)

The other interesting thing about the update of Lightroom is the possibility to import files directly from SD card via adapter to LR without using the camera roll on iphone and iPad. So why is Leica charging 55 bucks for the importing? (Yes, I know it's something different, but it's downloading a picture from camera to mobile device via wifi now - no extra efforts for leica or licence issues)

Your link re: support for SL2 has nothing to do with FOTOS app. It simply means LR supports the RAW DNG file from the SL2. The paid features in the FOTOS app are simply an option (wireless option), they are not required or necessary. The extra efforts from Leica are developing the app itself.

Bottom line, if the paid features don't offer value to you then ignore them. They are not necessary.

Why so rude? I didn't say that my link has anything to do with Leica Fotos.

Furthermore I referring to a statement from Leica that the transfer costs because of licence issues (as I wrote).

And just for you to opening your mind: EVERY other camera company offer downloading files from camera to the smartphone for free.

The free FOTOS app allows downloading files from camera to the smartphone for free as well.

AFAIK, the subscription version adds only integration with Lightroom.

Sorry, did not intend to be rude.. Just answering your question.

And BTW- The Leica FOTOS app allows downloading the files from camera to the smartphone for free. The paid part is an option for LR import, which is not required nor necessary.

I’m on LR Classic 9.0 and there doesn’t seem to be another update AFAICT.  Also, mine doesn’t say “built-in lens profile applied.”  When I tick the profile box, I get the message “the right profile cannot automatically be found.”

did you install todays update?

im testing now

They are rolling it out slowly ... I do not see the update neither. I do not think the new version will address the missing lens profile in SL Summicrons. I believe present state is works-as-intended.

Todays update specifically says for SL2

but in Lens profiles...none of the SL lenses are even listed. It only lists Leica R, M and S lenses

I remember raising this question when I received my 90SL summicron - Easy answer has been that the Summicrons are so good that there is no need for an embedded lens profile. Accordingly, LR properly shows only for the 3 varios that the embedded profile has been applied.

They are not supposed to list.  You’re supposed to get the message “built-in lens profile applied” and the drop down menu should be grayed out.

LR shows that ‘the embedded profile has been applied’ with the SL Summicrons on the S1/R, though. 😁 Go figure.

Unchanged after today's update - this is how it looks like SL2 w/ 90SL

The camera adds the built-in lens profile to the DNG files. What does it say on S1/R + Summicron DNGs when clicking on "i" in the lens correction panel? What kind of correction have been applied? Thanks.

I do not expect any changes, since the built-in profile is added (or not) by the camera.

By default it looks like this...that message only appears if you click "Enable Profiles" box.

I assume since a profile isn't necessary, there is no reason to select the option.

Lightroom CC 9.1 with Camera Raw 12.1 has added support for the SL2.  Thbese are both December 2019 releases.  However none of the SL lenses are supported at this time other than using "built inlens profile."  Most of my older M lenses are supported fully by Lightroom CC when using the M to L adapter..
