Peak Design Slide Strap - Can the Anchors scratch the body?

I like those, where did you find them?  As for getting the anchors through the lugs, I applied some light wax to the cord, then used fishing line to pull them through the lugs.  Tight fit, so shouldn't be any wear problems.

The anchor loops are high strength synthetic fibre inside a woven synthetic sleeve with fairly softish plastic buttons ..... neither of which should cause much concern. The plastic outside of the strap clip is fine but the insert is metal ...... although it is flat and unlikely to scratch ..... although you could always put black electrical insulating tape over it if you are worried (as I have done). More of a concern is the metal 'slide' mechanism which I have actually removed and permanently sewn the strap to the length I require ...... it's no longer adjustable but a least I don't have a rogue piece of metal rattling around in by backpack/bag. Metal bits on straps .... even split rings .... are best avoided if you are concerned about cosmetic damage..... which can knock $100's off the resale price of expensive gear like Leica if you ever want to upgrade/change ....

Hi, though an old thread re peak desin Slide strap. I have just removed the alunimiun metal slide handles completely, and replaced the retaining screws with slightly shorter M3 x 12mm (Flat Point) Grub Screws (very cheap) which screw in and don't poke out at all, so no scratching, as well as still allowing the strap to be fully adjustable... for good measure I dropped a tiny spot of epochy quick drying resin on each screw head into the small gap which looks good and works. Re the metal strap insert on the back of the strap clip, I stuck on a small piece of vinyl (for cars etc (super cheap from ebay)) and cut it out with a scalpel - looks good and works well and the strap doesn't scratch anything when shoved in a bag. I have far to much time on my hands I guess...

As an alternative I've just made a set of straps using these attachments: https://www.pgytech.com/products/quick-connectors-with-quick-beads.  In the UK you can get them through Amazon.  They strike me as being a nicer design than Peak, have no external metal parts and pair very well with 25mm webbing and strap adjusters you can get for pennies.  If you can use a sewing machine, they're the best thing I've come across yet 😊

Nice ideas! Can you post a picture of what you did?

Apologies for taking so long to reply. Please see attached image showing strap with modifications - no metal 'pull' adjusters and blobs of epoxy covering adjuster screw holes (original screws replaced with shorter grub screws). and vinyl film on the back of the strap fixing plates. When attached to my Q2 and stuffed in my sling back, absolutely nothing to scratch.

Nick.

@NickOC, well done!  I like that strap and use it on my S3.  It never occurred to me to dress it up like you have to protect the side (not really needed for the S system).  I like how you did that and it could probably apply to the quick slide straps that are thinner, but I use with the M system.

Thanks!

FWIW, I use QD connectors.  The QD socket is machined into my RRS L-bracket or SmallRig cage.

eg. https://reallyrightstuff.com/mc-ls/

The straps are gun straps you can buy on eBay.

eg. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/173660359531

No contact with the body, so no rubbing and nothing can wear out 😃  Also it is very secure when the camera is attached (these things are meant for firearms), and detaching is a simple but firm click.  Always found the Peak things very fiddly when connecting or disconnecting.

If you are worried about scratches, first start with your camera bag. The bottom of my LCD screen on my SL2-S has begun loosing lacquer. Didn't understand why, until I found out that when taking the camera in and out my Peak Design Sling 6L, the zipper would touch exactly here on the camera.

The next thing you could worry about, is zippers, rivets and buttons on your jacket.

In all the plastic anchors will not be the biggest scratcher...

You could also don't worry at all, and go out and use the camera as the tool it is. It will be scratched over time anyway....

Yes, I agree!  I have noticed that about the pd sling 10L, which doesnt open as widely as the 6L. I always take great care to avoid contact with the zips. Otherwise, these bags -- I have both -- are perfect for my needs.

Yes, very nice bags. But in general I would avoid camera bags with zippers in the future. Maybe that is why Billingham is so popular...
