Peak Design Slide Strap - Can the Anchors scratch the body?

Hi,

For those of you who use the Peak Design Slide Camera Strap, do you think the small anchors attached to the body can scratch it?  I am very OCD with respect to cosmetics.

Thanks

My Peaks are made out of plastic. They are very practical. On a tripod the strap is a hindrance, so I take it off.

But my (digital-) camera is a tool, that will not last 20 years. I have my 3rd iPhone already and since 1988 my 6th Mac.

Thank you for the reply though I am not sure you have actually responded to my question

The small anchor connectors will not scratch the body, at least not if they are repeatedly not forced against the body. I would think that the anchor mount (on the strap) may scratch the body a little over time. I have not seen this on my bodies, but there could be a slight possibility.

When doing street-type of photography, I prefer to keep the body in my hand. In this case I use a lug-mount wrist strap, with a piece of protective leather between the body and the strap (like the octagonal strap bumper a little down on this link: https://gordyscamerastraps.com/collections/wrist-straps/products/wrist-strap-lug-mount). In case you are concerned about scratching, you may add a piece of leather between the body and the anchor/strap. And finally, any piece of metal on any strap will, eventually, scratch the body and/or the lens...

The anchor loops are high strength synthetic fibre inside a woven synthetic sleeve with fairly softish plastic buttons ..... neither of which should cause much concern. The plastic outside of the strap clip is fine but the insert is metal ...... although it is flat and unlikely to scratch ..... although you could always put black electrical insulating tape over it if you are worried (as I have done). More of a concern is the metal 'slide' mechanism which I have actually removed and permanently sewn the strap to the length I require ...... it's no longer adjustable but a least I don't have a rogue piece of metal rattling around in by backpack/bag. Metal bits on straps .... even split rings .... are best avoided if you are concerned about cosmetic damage..... which can knock $100's off the resale price of expensive gear like Leica if you ever want to upgrade/change ....

Thank you for all the responses.  I will never be storing the camera with the strap attached.  So no chance of the metal clasps doing any damage.  My concern was more to do with anchor plastic buttons which seems to be unfounded based on the you responses.

I have used nothing but Peak Design straps for a very long time.  I never remove the connectors, just change which strap for a situation.

None of my cameras has ever had a scratch from these straps and connectors.  Only the tripod plate which is normal, so I remove it each evening.

Can you tell how you removed these metal slides, I'm also concerned that it easily can scratch anything in its way. As I see on images and videos, there are some screws which are holding this slides in place, so is it possible to get rid of them entirely without breaking it down?

Thanks!!!

aaagh, hate dejavus :) sorry!

Without them the forum would be missing much of its contents.  Hardly a subject, apart from new gear releases, that hasn’t been covered repeatedly, especially straps, bags, etc.  It’s all good… and often entertaining.

FYR -- I am using a pair of oval split ring plus plastic hood well-protects camera body.
