Procedure is to use the lens on the Canon, press the depth in field preview button and release the lens. The aperture you choose before will be fixed. And you can use always this one together with the adapter on the SL. But it is not possible to change the aperture afterwards, only by repeating the same procedure again. I read this so many times here, it sound like a real kludge. To AF EOS lens you may as well use Canon camera. Despite all the technical prowess of the latest SL mk2 the key attraction of the Leica systems are the Leica optics. Mirrorless users of other brands (Sony, Nikon, etc) go crazy for M and R lenses. Even Leica SL platform heavily caters for legacy lens users.

Thank you -- I'll just keep the Canon R for those lenses. The SL (and Q) are all about intuitive usage with great results. Simplicity! The Q brought me to Leica the first time I used one. It became my primary camera as the Canons became lens tools when 28mm was not the best choice. Then I added m-to-RF adapters and started buying M glass. Now the SL is my main camera, the Q in the bag for when I need 28mm. Canon R in a separate bag for AF usage. I'd better start selling more images so that I can get SL lenses... APO-Sumicron 35mm will be my first acquisition and replace the Sigma 45mm I just ordered. Cheers! Henry

I do not think the AF speed has improved but as you say it made the decision much easier. Thanks

HeinzX Posted November 24, 2019 Share #26 Posted November 24, 2019 (edited) I have tried myself both adapters now - the Sigma 21and the Novoflex. Both work together with the SL 2 just as the Novoflex did it with the SL. Not better not worse woth the lenses I tried and which are my only ones from Canon. Used lenses were the Canon 180 mm Macro, the 100 mm Macro (old one, not L) and the MP-E 65. Last one has no AF at all, the other two can be used with AF but not really when used in very short distance = macro use. The magnification possbility of the camera works. I get the same massage as mentioned above - but it results in no problem. Edited November 24, 2019 by HeinzX

Below the reply 😲 Hi there, The adapter should work. However, we do not make this adapter anymore. You can only buy it used. There's a firmware update for the MC-21 from Sigma: https://www.sigma-global.com/en/download/lenses/firmware/mount-converter_mc21/sa-l/ Try it, it may get rid of the battery message. I had a similar warning on the SL 601 & CL with the Sigma 45mm lens. After doing the lens FW update the message has gone.

You can have your lens mount swapped to L mount and bypass the adapter. It should then give you full functionality incl. AFC. Have a look a this link, table #2 Sigma Lenses eligible for Mount Conversion Service What's frustrating some of us here, is that the L mount conversion service is not available for the long telephoto lenses.
RagingCANE Posted August 10, 2020 Share #30 Posted August 10, 2020 I found a Novoflex EF to L adapter on eBay but when I asked the seller they said it does not work with the SL2 which is why they discontinued it. Novoflex also confirmed this saying that Leica changed the firmware on the SL2 and it no longer works. My only reason for needing this is for the Canon EOS 17 and 24 TSE lenses so I am hoping the MC-21 works well. I don't need AF so I'm not too worried. I would love it if I could change my Canon lenses to L mount. Regardless, everything else I shoot will be on Leica glass.

MC-21 works fine on SL2, and (much) better than the Novoflex electronic adapter. So no worries regarding MC-21.

You'll have AFS function (no AFC) as well as EXIF info with Canon lenses.

Sony has a flange to sensor distance of 18mm, while Leica L has a 20mm distance. That means that any adapted Sony lens would not be able to focus to infinity, especially after adding the depth of the adapter. If you could find a 2mm thick adapter with electronics you might be able to adapt Leica lenses to Sony, but not the other way around (I mean theoretically. It is not practical and no one has done it as far as I am aware). Edited December 4, 2024 by Stuart Richardson
hamey Posted December 7, 2024 Share #36 Posted December 7, 2024 Having only one Canon lens left and that's the 70-300mm L lens, it works with a glitch on the Sigma MC21, what I have noticed is that whenever I switch on the IS on the Canon Lens it Automatically disengages the IBIS on my SL2-S so cannot use both at the same time, so I just leave the IBIS OFF on the SL2-S than the Lens AF and IS works fine. Since I brought the 100-400 Leica lens I no longer use the Canon, so no further issues with my SL2-S. Ken.
