Mr.Q Posted November 6, 2019 Share #123 Posted November 6, 2019 So it's got Smart AF and Smart IBIS? I hope it doesn't have Smart LENR as well.

Menu driven also. Choose it when appropriate. They were confident enough with long exposure ISO noise to remove it. Leica were also confident that SL2 has better IQ and better high ISO than S1R. Even if I think that the difference is slight . It also has better video capabilities and quality than S1R. Actually Leica said that SL2 have the best video implementation of every mirrorless in the market. Except S1H. SL2 shoots 5K at 30 ; 25 ; 25 fps Edited November 6, 2019 by nicci78
sebben Posted November 6, 2019 Share #126 Posted November 6, 2019 12g lighter. Great achievement. I don’t really see any reason to upgrade unless they have significantly raised the video bit rate and made it actually usable with the flat profile without inducing an insane amount of noise like the SL. The rest seems rather basic evolution and one would hope for more after 4 years. Perhaps the autofocus is much improved but is it up to the Sony level of magic? nicci78 Posted November 6, 2019 Share #127 Posted November 6, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just plain Panasonic DFD with object detection. No eye AF. 47MP, IBIS, 10bit video, 5K, L-Log profile, new handgrip, new menu system. Are little more than just basic evolution.
hillavoider Posted November 6, 2019 Share #128 Posted November 6, 2019 No eye detect AF ? ? Really
sebben Posted November 6, 2019 Share #129 Posted November 6, 2019 But will any of those things lead to better images? The video specs you mention where basically in the original. They just didn’t work to a professional level.
Chaemono Posted November 6, 2019 Share #130 Posted November 6, 2019 Smart vs. Flexible AF. Leica SL2: Smart AF (autonomously selects AFs and AFc), AFs (picture taken only after successful focusing), AFc (picture can be taken at any time). Lumix AFF: "Flexible" in the sense that it repeatedly checks to see if the subject is focus and if not, it attempts to refocus without assuming continuous movement - Think basketball. Again, you need to half-press the shutter button for focus to occur. Sound like two different things to me.
Rockcrusher Posted November 6, 2019 Share #131 Posted November 6, 2019 Its funny to watch. I am not a Leica user yet, but its the same in any Photograhy Forum in the Internet and with any Camera brand. When a company release a new camera everybody is crying how bad it is. This is Missing, AF is Bad Menu System is wrong and so on... and no one used the camera. 5 1
sebben Posted November 6, 2019 Share #132 Posted November 6, 2019 It’s got a lot to do with marketing creating a lot of expectations whilst the product under delivers. Especially when you consider the premium pricing model

I am disappointed.

A certainty on this forum when some of the armchair camera /lens designers choose to poo poo new products they've likely not used and have no intention of buying … e.g. as happened with the XV dunk Edited November 6, 2019 by dkCambridgeshire

Leica wanted to share it with its best customers first. Some people have educated opinions about. We are not spec sheets talking. SL2 is really nicer to handle. But losing the four buttons system puzzles me. Leica representatives refuse to talk about. Their answer it is easier to understand. Previous SL owner will have to adjust. If you upgrade your camera you have to learn a new set of operations to control it, when it should be second nature.

SL2 is outsourced to an external Munich design studio. That may explain the difference in the user interface choice. That's no excuse, they really should keep a common design for the 'user interface'.
