Same barn by Lakeview, OR but different weather.  Not much snow yet.  Maybe more on my way back home.

Just up the road from the barn.  Needs a better sky but you take what you can when you can.

With a central subject at MFD or macro distance, the Q2 can have a much more 3D look by turning off distortion correction in Capture One (in Lens Correction panel, set profile to "Generic" and reduce Distortion slider to zero) and using the crop tool to reveal the entire image (select "crop outside image" in Crop panel). The corrected version of this shot without the barrel distortion feels "dead" by comparison.

Can we see the dead? It’s a lengthy process but great to see what we might be missing…

Sure thing. Top is with distortion correction removed, bottom is corrected per default manufacturer profile. (Both are "uncropped" but composition shifted slightly between them.)

Wow! Yeah I absolutely see it, also look in the bottom left corner especially, the curvature is attractive here to my eyes. Nice find

Thanks. Removing the distortion correction has been a known thing for a while, but I never really tried observing it as a creative aid for certain shots. It does give a bit of that vintage lens roundness at the edges but not too much. The Zeiss Classic (ZE/ZF) 28mm f/2 has a three dimensional rendering at close distance that this reminds me of.

I have also found that when using any of the crop modes, removing distortion correction can be very helpful so long as you're not needing straight lines for architecture or a flat horizon. For example, a 35mm crop of a Q2 landscape at infinity: removing the distortion correction gives sharper details and better microcontrast where the image had been corrected (which is not just the corners but mid frame as well). The differences are minor but can be worthwhile if you like to view images at 1:1 or like to make really large prints.
