I was surprised just picked up a B+W UVIR filter. I wasn't expecting a huge difference in the images, but that is what I received. The filter is a 486 UV/IR cut.

All with M8 and a 35 Summilux preasph with filter:

We've been repeating this for more than 10 years here so glad to see that the message got through ;).

Well I have only had my M8 for 2 months, the no filter folk have been vocal. Have a job of a set of head shots, artificial light so I decided to look into cut filters. I did work with a Kodak DCS760 where you needed a hot mirror filter for product shots, back in the late '90s, so i understand the problem.

I've always used the filters on my M8's and don't have any problems or angst.

One thing i have noticed is different lenses have different uv and ir signatures on the M8 without filters.  For example my Kobalux 21mm f2.8 has a much much more olive and yellow tint to vegetation on a bright day, compared to my Voigtlander 21mm f4 lens (both without filters as compared to same subjects).
