KFo Posted October 24, 2019 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello: I just picked up a nice used 21 f/4 and I’ve been very happy with the quality and results. One thing I noticed this morning when I went to brush some dust off the lens is that the filter installed appears to be thin plastic. Like if you tap it with a finger nail it flexes. Seems pretty cheap. I messed with it for a few minutes to see if I could unscrew it but it is pretty tight. Before I really attack it I wanted to ask: anyone have experience with this lens filter attachment? Should I be able to unscrew it? Thanks, Kevin Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Hi KFo, Take a look here Voigtlander 21 f/4 Color Skopar Lens Filter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
KFo Posted October 24, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted October 24, 2019 Mystery solved. I realized that the outer most ring is just a lens hood, which unscrews...allowing the filter to be unscrewed. Also figured out that the filter felt cheap because it was a little loose. When I tapped on it, it rattled. Once disassembled everything looks like good quality. Welcome, dear visitor! 250swb Posted October 24, 2019 Share #3 Posted October 24, 2019 Marumi filters are actually quite good and not plastic.
bayernfan Posted October 25, 2019 Share #4 Posted October 25, 2019 Are you taping over the 6-bit code reader? I believe there is a firmware update that addresses this issue, making the tape unnecessary.
KFo Posted October 25, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted October 25, 2019 Yes, I do have the gaffer tape to keep the camera from freaking out over the exposed code reader. I’ll have to look at the firmware updates to see if that is addressed. I’m always a reluctant firmware upgrader...something else could be screwed up that is more important to me than what gets fixed. Thanks for the heads up on that though!
bayernfan Posted October 25, 2019 Share #6 Posted October 25, 2019 I believe it was addressed in firmware 2.0.0.
KFo Posted October 25, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted October 25, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) My camera is way past that... I’m on 2.6.5.1. I just didn’t load the last firmware as the fixes didn’t seem relevant to me.
