Derby UK. St George's Day celebrations. Maypole. This is taken by putting the camera on a monopod and triggering the camera with the FOTOS app. In this way, the height of the camera can by anything from head height to almost two metres above head height, giving an interesting perspective on any shot.

LX100 II, straight OOC. I really wish Leica would do a similar upgrade to the D Lux 7.

I wonder what upgrade did Panasonic do that you wish Leica would do? Thanks.

Here's from the now defunct DPR Review, which was long my go to site for getting good information about digital cameras.

"Like the Mark I, the LX100 II features extensive external control points but it now also gains a touchscreen to speed up processes such as AF point positioning and interacting with the customizable function menu. Along with the higher-resolution sensor, the LX100 II gains a host of clever features the company has developed since the launch of the original model. But, perhaps more importantly, it also gains the improved color rendering Panasonic introduced with the GH5, which should mean more attractive JPEG output."

Dandelion Seed Head. D-Lux 7 f/16 200 ASA 1/8 second with its flash on a cable extender (off-camera flash cord for a Canon has the right pin configuration) and a miniature soft-box.  Background is a computer monitor (with a colour on it).

This is the rig I used for the photograph of the dandelion head. It is mounted on 15mm rails (150mm) with the flash on a 'Magic Arm'. The dandelion is on a separate tripod but I have a setup with 300mm rails and with that, it is totally self-contained - aim it at whatever background you want. The 150mm version can have a Raynox DCR-250 mounted on the front (with a support) and as the flash can go anywhere, I can carry this macro setup around the garden or anywhere else - a sort of insect/flower version of street (meadow?) photography 😉

You say the off camera cord for Canon has the right pin configuration. Does that mean it provides TTL metering? Thanks.

Yes.

This is the one I bought ... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003BGNBGK  They do make them with other pin configurations as well but this fits our beloved D Lux 7.

The hardware is all SmallRig or whoever makes the bit I'm interested in and the softbox is https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08J494JGF which is about the size of the palm of my hand and diffuses the light nicely.

With the D Lux 7 being so nice and small, you can set up stuff like this without it taking up much room and also making it very transportable. If I use 6" tubes and miss off the parts that hold the subject, I have a very transportable macro setup and I can place the flash pretty much anywhere I like. Take the DCR250 off the lens and being able to position the flash comes into its own - no shadows cast by the lens. The two configurations in the photographs are mounted on a tripod but that is just for convenience - Arca Swiss mount and using an L bracket as well - clearly the small configuration (2) is taken off the tripod and used in the field with shutter speeds anything up to 1/4000the second. With this stuff you can use what you need and configure it the way that suits you the best for any given situation.

I love the D Lux 7 - it is so versatile (within environmental reason such as no dust/excess humidity and all of those other common sense things relating to photographic equipment).
