I am thinking of selling my Leica Q to help purchase a Leica S Typ 006 and a 70mm lens. My rational is I love the CCD sensor look and medium format combination. I don't travel usually with my Leicas but I do shoot portrait and landscape mostly and purposefully. Thinking a adding a tripod as well. Thoughts?

You will thoroughly enjoy medium format. Be aware, though, that there were issues with corrosion of the 006 sensor, so try to  find one where it has been replaced. (I think a new sensor can cost in the $5K USD range).

Best not to shoot the 006 with iso above 800, so a tripod is a good idea.

This also might be the right time to find some S lenses as it is a buyer's market. Once the S3 arrives,  prices may firm up.

Good luck with your search.

I demo-ed the S006 and S30-90 zoom for a week, but ultimately did not keep.  This was in large part due to my testing for handheld use, which I found was only effective in good light. Print results, with cooperating light, were not surprisingly superb, when I did my part well.  I think the 70 combo would have worked out better as a faster, lighter pairing, but I was interested in zoom results. The S007 surely would have provided more flexibility, but prices then were not nearly as favorable as now.  I don't get too hung up on CCD/CMOS distinctions, particularly given flexibility with custom profiles and other PP and printing techniques.  I do get pleasure from using a first version (CCD) Monochrom, but primarily due to the b/w mindset.  Ultimately, I think one can only decide by actual use within one's own shooting and print workflow.

Be sure, too, that any S lens you buy has the latest AF motor replacement.  The S system has its issues, for sure, but the results and current prices offset some of the frustrations with reliability and service. That gorgeous OVF alone is almost worth the pain.

In July 2019 Leica quoted me €2,400 plus VAT (19%?) for the replacement of my 006 sensor. As I only paid £786 for my 006 I figured that 10 seconds of using Photoshop's Spot Healing Brush would save me a lot of money!

I will probably upgrade to the 007 (and keep my 006 as a backup) when the S3 finally comes out and pushes the 007 prices down.

S006 is still one of the best cameras on the market, if your priorities are image quality combined with ease of use. It has a separate shutter speed dial, which has been dropped in successor models. Some say the color is better than 007, however, I see no deficiencies when comparing the two. 007 has live view, which is advantageous in some  situations. However, this has not prevented me from achieving my imaging goals.
