setuporg Posted October 4, 2019 Author Share #21 Posted October 4, 2019 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) @yudafu2 the revelation by Ming Thein of the unique color calibration X1D does explains their unique impact, as consistent for Hassy as Leica look is for Leica. I think both are artistic tools. Hasselblad also says their skin tones are the best, probably calibrated as well. I find Ming Thein's blog an amazing resource for X1D, as he was an insider and is an artist first: https://blog.mingthein.com/. I think using both S and X1D is as much fun as you can get! I love Fuji XF and had all their small OVF+EVF cameras and might get the X-Pro3 to follow up on the revolutionary X-Pro1/2, but the Fuji look might seem a bit harsh after Leica and Hassy. On the other hand the system is compact and fun. Since I chose X1D for its design, size, and feel, I've not tried the GFX, added the S instead for OVF. The size of the GFX 100 is also the reason not to go there, I'd rather see what Hasselblad will do for 100 MPs, if anything. Advertisement Posted October 4, 2019 Posted October 4, 2019 Hi setuporg, Take a look here Leica S + Hasselblad X1D. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
setuporg Posted October 13, 2019 Author Share #22 Posted October 13, 2019 Here's the gallery where I compare S007 vs X1Dii, handheld, all auto, with S70mm vs XCS 65mm and S35mm vs XCD 30mm: https://adobe.ly/312vNUk Each image is roughly similar in a pair, and captions confirm pairing: ca1s and ca1h for Leica S and Hasselblad, respectively. The pairs are next to each other. The original Lr Classic collection has them stacked but alas the CC version does not support stacking yet. I plan more explorations like this, and the 75 pairs are just a fraction of what I've shot in that expedition alone. 3
setuporg Posted October 31, 2019 Author Share #23 Posted October 31, 2019 (edited) Here's the main differentiator: readiness. The OVF is always open for business. You raise the Leica, waking it up, while composing the shot. In those few seconds it's ready and you shoot. AF locks fast, although you might correct it. You are carrying a gun. You raise the Hasselblad, and it takes a few seconds to wake up. 4 for MkII, 8-10 for the original X1D. You don't see anything until the EVF and LCD come to life after that. You cannot compose. Now, you can, but AF hunts a bit. It feels very iffy. You are carrying a vase. Edited October 31, 2019 by setuporg
alan.y Posted October 31, 2019 Share #24 Posted October 31, 2019 (edited) Except the gun actually also breaks like a vase... internally. Edited October 31, 2019 by alan.y
