Allows for mounting two lenses back to back and saves a lot of room this way. Been using mines since the eighties. I don't think they are being sold by Leica anymore but they were still available for R and M lenses in the nineties at least as they were listed in the manual of my L6J. Here's the M version, code 14838. Only con it has no center partition so mounting two protruding lenses is impossible or dangerous for the rear elements. Welcome, dear visitor! Another con is the lack of protection of the rear element of the "idle" lens. No breadcrumbs or sharp objects in the bag - not that we'd want to carry these alongside our precious lenses anyway... The Leica R version was a smarter design, with a center partition. Not a problem on R lenses due to their little protrusion or lack thereof. But many M lenses do protrude as you know and designing a center partition for them would not allow to couple for instance a 28 and a 90 as we can do with the 14838 coupling ring. A later one i don't recall the name has such a center partition and felt useless when i tried it for this reason. Perhaps the GoWing is deeper though i don't know. BTW a body cap (14397 or other) provides a good protection for the idle lens if needed. Of course those accessories are not weather sealed but neither are M lenses anyway. A matter of personal habits and preferences (and bag size...), I guess. Could the later one you are referring to be the Op/Tech? Never tried it as it seems to be about as large as two standard rear caps - and looks like one of these cheap 3D-printed gizmos.

LCT, that one looks to only have 3 flanges so wouldn't that one be for R lenses? Pete. Edited September 11, 2019 by farnz
