Hey guys!

I've got some spare M9's so I thought let's try to repaint one of them. I red some topics on the forum but these were most often about the film Leica's. I have some experience with disassembling so that won't be the problem. Has anyone some tips and tricks to separate the viewfinders from the top plate and how to get the paint off?

I am curious about your ideas!

Repainting will void the warranty. That's the first thing to be aware of.

The viewfinder windows on the front are wedged inside the frame, so it's just a simple matter of popping them out from inside the top plate.

The eyepiece on the back has a plastic cover which should be removed first. You'll then see three (I remember?) screws holding the metal eyepiece to the frame.

I've not tried removing the paint myself, but I'm guess they can be removed with paint remover or sandblasting?

What I meant was that, if the user removes the top plate, or get a 3rd party repair shop to do so, Leica will not service or repair the camera anymore should any issue with the electronics occur.

I saw some disassembly videos online and I believe that the shutter speed dial is integral to the top plate. I don't think it can be removed as it's pressed in with some electronic components. That will probably make painting difficult without being able to remove the dial, and possibly the shutter release.

Thanks but I'm aware of that and I know how to disassemble the top plate. My struggle is more about the removal of the paint and getting the paint job done.
