Time to get a Leica 35mm lens

I has this lens for years, and although its quite sharp and has a nice contrast I sold it mainly because of it being very sensitive to flare. Maybe my copy was bad but if the sun where anywhere on the wrong side of the lens one could see flare in that area. I eventually got a good deal on a Summilux FLE and although expensive this is and absolutely amazing lens!!

if I where on a budget I would consider the Zeiss ZM 1.4, Voigtländer Nokton 35 f1.2, or try go get a good deal on the summicron 35 Asph (the one with plastic hood can be found at ok prices) 

if your budget is even tighter the Nokton f1.4 vII is supposed to be good, Zeiss ZM is also nice. Summaron 35 is underestimated, very sharp and small.

I have the 50/2.4 Summarit and love this lens - it is a really great all around 50mm.  I cannot imagine that the 35/2.4 Summarit would be any lesser of a lens.

Someone observed that you seem to be interested in modern M lenses vs. older classic versions.  If that is the case, I would highly recommend the 35/2.4 Summarit.  While it is $1300 USD more costly, the 35/2.0 Summicron ASPH (#11673) is pretty much the king of 35mm M lenses. 

If the higher priced Summicron is a no-go, you can't go wrong with the Summarit IMHO.

My budget is £1400, I may try and get a Summicron Asph. 

I'm gutted there was a Summilux 35mm the first version Asph for only £1800, what a steal!

I fully agree. I sold my 35 FLE for the Summarit and I love it too. I prefer the overall rendering and the smoother bokeh. And the sharpness is great too, more than enough. I had the Summicron ASPH before and loved it on film but not so much on digital.
