I'm with Chris. I think your first shot is exceptional as is. Probably my favorite on this thread. Great color and composition.

Guy, I learn so much from you, but your reved up version doesn't look convincing to me. Different strokes for ....

I love seeing different versions. They teach so much.

Great thread.

I've been doing quite a bit of landscape work with my M8 - but these two, shot the very aftrenoon I picked it up, are my favorites.

Linda--that's a magnificent and lonely old tree that looks as if it has many stories to tell! Where did you shoot it?

Arnaud--what a view! The ancient sea and sky along with the lights of a modern city.

Gosh, what a revelation this thread is of all the mere and wonderful _stuff_ there is to see in our world!

Keep the pictures coming!

I don't think I've ever used a better camera than the M8 for landscapes. I also own a Canon 1Ds Mark II with prime lenses. I much prefer the M8's images.

Urban landscape...

Love this shot - is the the Brooklyn/ Queens expressway - heading towards Williamsburg Bridge?

Very evocative for me of some wonderful breaks in one of the World's great cities.

Steve,

That's exactly where I was. I always have drivers take the BQE from the JFK/LGA airports so I can get this view. This shot was taken out the window of a towncar. I still remember when I first peeked out the window of an Amtrak and got my first glimpse of Manhattan. It felt like I was discovering a lost civilization because I had only really known the west coast until then. I basically never left since!

This is a whole new game. I have never got the same image quality on medium format – and this very small jpg does not tell more than a fraction of it. So Sean Reid's contention that the M8 is really a medium format camera is true. But you can still use it like a Leica M camera – because it is one!

Oh hell, seeing as everyone else is posting landscapes......

It's taking time to get used to the camera despite my roll-film rangefinder experience, but this week I have felt a little more in tune with with it in the landscape. I prefer the M8 best on a tripod, use a cable release, sometimes a black view camera cloth, and the camera screen turned up nearly to 11, and one lens.

The following file is a test from the in-camera Jpeg and will be dumped. This is a quick, fun play to see if there's a picture lurking in the file, it's OK if you think it looks 'over the top', that's part of my play-dump familiarisation process.

.................Chris

Damn. Sorry, the image didn't load
