Hi friends,

Yesterday night I suddenly got one of my leica Q strap attachments off the camera! It was such a miracle that nothing happened since in any other situation it would have meant a sure hit to the floor... in this case I had it well caught from the other side... anyone ever saw this before? Any ideas how to fix it and make sure it doesn’t happen again?

thanks a lot and best regards!

Cant be fixed by user.   Return to Leica (preferably via a local dealer).  Should be repaired free of charge.

My strap unwound itself from the chrome ring so easy to fix.

Good luck.

I’m arranging a trip to official service indeed.

It’s still difficult to believe this happened! Never seen before, I have 50 year old cameras with same strap attachment mechanism and they’re as strongly secured as the first day. How is this possible in a Leica camera??? It could have meant 9 out of 10 times the camera to hit the floor and end of story...

happened to me too, camera fell to the ground and got a large dent in the hood and in the side. I was shurely annoyed, sent it back to leica, cost me 450€ to repair (only to reattach the lug), took them 7 weeks and they refused to give warranty on the repair, because of the dent caused by their bad design. I was shurely pissed off.

as a side note: one day after is sent my Q to leica the sensor of my Fuji GFX developed a fault, I sent it ot Fuji, the replaced the sensor at no cost, and sent the camera back WITHIN THREE WORKING DAYS!

this ist why I stopped using Leica professionally.

yeah this is why I had canon then fuji as pro cameras and Leica as home cameras. There's nothing to stop you using a Leica professionally from a quality of results point of view but they just don't offer support thats suitable for working professionals.  Canon is even better than Fuji - repairs are stated as 48 hours but a 24 hour turnaround is not uncommon if you drop it off and pick it up from one of their service centers.

I ended up selling my Leica for financial reasons (photography is a tough business) but now I've closed the studio and gone back to earning decent money again I've bought a Q2 and love it.  There's no camera I'd rather have for my own photography than a Leica but relying on one for my daily bread would make me nervous.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello folks,

I felt that I owed an update on this topic, especially if it ever happens to someone else in the community.

Leica Germany HQ has taken full ownership off this issue. They quickly replied to me and got all measures to fix the problem at zero cost for me. They have guaranteed that it won’t happen again and that I can use it confidently going fwd.

I’m receiving the camera next week at home, they arranged all shipping and everything. They service so far has been top of the top, really to what I’d expect from Leica.

Regards

Sergio
