vanGeist Posted August 8, 2019 Share #21  Posted August 8, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have stopped looking for another 85 or 90 mm lens, as the pre-ASPH is a wonderful lens. Just another Mandler masterpiece.   Welcome, dear visitor! Steve Ricoh Posted August 11, 2019 Share #22  Posted August 11, 2019 Not exactly a showcase for the 90 f/2, more like a landscape. Welcome, dear visitor! jonnyboy Posted February 14, 2023 Share #23  Posted February 14, 2023 I'm thinking to let my 90mm F4 Elmar-C go and upgrade to a Summicron 90mm F2 (pre asph). I was using it few days ago for some filming (sitting on a tripod, shooting from the distance) and I noticed the image being slightly soft when shooting wide open (i wasn't on infinity...but almost!). How's the Summicron F2 compare? is it nicely sharp at all distances and wide open?

[...] How's the Summicron F2 compare? is it nicely sharp at all distances and wide open? It is nicely unsharp  at f/2. Neither soft nor tack sharp, perfect for gentle portraits. For sharper results at f/2 you may wish to consider the Summicron 90/2 apo. Edited February 14, 2023 by lct
jonnyboy Posted February 14, 2023 Share #25 Â Posted February 14, 2023 As much as I would love to have a lens with character etc I will often use this lens for filming, hence I need sharpness at all apertures/distances. Maybe the 90mm F2.5 could be a good option?

Maybe the 90mm F2.5 could be a good option? I have no experience with it but my Summarit 90/2.4 could do it certainly. It can be slightly soft on edges and corners below f/5.6 though. The Elmarit 90/2.8 v2 is more homogeneous in this respect. It has also a built-in hood but its MFD is 1m vs 0.9m for the 90/2.4. You can go wrong with neither lens anyway. A very good all around performer in a small package.

A very good all around performer in a small package. It is the Elmarit 90/2.8 v2 i was referring to above. Solid as a tank but small package i would not say so. Better choose an Apo-Skopar 90/2.8 for that. Very good lens, the same size as the "fat" Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8 more or less with a handy bayonet hood that can be reversed for transportation. Sharper than the T-E at f/2.8 with less flare than the latter. It has not significantly less color fringing though in spite of its apo capabilities. FWIW. ldhrads Posted May 4, 2023 Share #29  Posted May 4, 2023 I have this lens, and the 90/2.8 "thin" TEM. I tend to use the TEM more because of it's size, but I shot these portraits of my wife the other day with the 90/2.0 pre ASPH and I'm very please. My daughter asked for some professional head shots and I tried both this and the 75/1.4. For whatever reason I preferred the 90/2.0 in this situation. Welcome, dear visitor! SudaliuS Posted February 2 Share #30  Posted February 2 Have a good day time to everybody. Guys, may be you have some information that would be helpfull for me. I have the next situation: the seller offer to me this lens, 1998 year. Very good condition, leather case, caps. But has one nuance - a Leica seal on the one bayonet screw. What does it mean? It was repaired or what? May be claened?
