kepstein Posted August 2, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 2, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) My shutter release feels notchy, and is sometimes hard to depress. Is this a common issue? Thanks, Ken
Advertisement Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Hi kepstein, Take a look here M10 rough shutter release. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pico Posted August 2, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 2, 2019 Are you using a soft-release?
kepstein Posted August 2, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted August 2, 2019 No soft release.
jdlaing Posted August 2, 2019 Share #4 Posted August 2, 2019 Sounds like maybe a piece of grit in there. Try a rocket blower.

jdlaing Posted August 3, 2019 Share #6 Posted August 3, 2019 Just blow around the shutter button and see if gets better. I wouldn’t unscrew anything.

Reciprocity Posted August 13, 2019 Share #8 Posted August 13, 2019 Mine is the same and was even the same after coming back from service via Leica NJ. I even find it to be notchy using a soft release. Not the best shutter release feel I have experienced in a Leica body to be sure.

I used hand blower and then added my soft release, and it feels a little better. I maybe wishful thinking. The shutter is not as smooth as my M6 TTL, M8, or M240. Cliff S Posted August 14, 2019 Share #10 Posted August 14, 2019 i used alcohol on a swab and rubbed it on the edges and my shutter came back to life
kepstein Posted June 9, 2020 Author Share #11 Posted June 9, 2020 I will try this too, but mine causes me to select a faster shutter in order to avoid shake. The shutter is not nearly as smooth as my M6TTL, M8, or M240. Doc748 Posted February 22, 2021 Share #14 Posted February 22, 2021 keptstein, my recently acquired M10-R developed this problem as well. It wouldn't fire unless you exert enourmous force on shutter. Josh, at Leica Store Miami, asked me to bring it to the store to take a look at it. Bottom line, mine had a loose part on the shutter (I am not a technical person on this topic). He tightened it and now it works like a charm. You may want to contact Josh at the store and ask him to walk you through this process. It may be the same problem as yours. wrussell Posted November 30, 2021 Share #16 Posted November 30, 2021 Did you ever get this resolved? Can you DIY this or does it really need to be taken in?

No, and it continues to limit my use and enjoyment. I would love a DIY solution that works.

Well, my m10-R is about 12 hours old and already has this issue. Working to figure out solution with the boutique. In basically any other product I’d just return/exchange for a new one but body language on the forum here makes it seem like this is something we’re supposed to eat and have them tear apart a brand new camera as part of a warranty claim…

As an update here, they replaced my camera entirely. New one seems to work like a charm. A few other forum users had the same issue apparently but the solution is opaque - sounds like they went in for varying levels of off-site service, but ultimately resolved the issues. Best of luck.
