Magnus_L_Andersson Posted July 5, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 5, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Friends, Back in 2012 there was a lot of fuss about memory cards to use with MM Mk1 and some from Panasonic were said to be the best one. Hence, I bought a handful, but now I need to add more cards for a long trip and wonder what’s the current best pick of memory cards? /magnus photography.anderssoneklund.se

pedaes Posted July 5, 2019 Share #2 Posted July 5, 2019 The 'slower' cards seem to work best. Sandisk Extreme 45mb's work just fine.
Magnus_L_Andersson Posted July 5, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted July 5, 2019 It’s almost impossible to find that slow cards today, so anyone tried the Lexar Platinum II 300X that is the slowest I’m able to find at 16GB and 45 MB/s ? /magnus
Wyck Posted July 5, 2019 Share #4 Posted July 5, 2019 I've been using for the last year a Lexar Professional 1000x - 32GB 150MB/s card with no problems at all.

Does anyone know how fast various Leicas actually write to fast or slow cards? Where is the a bottleneck for certain models?
jaapv Posted July 7, 2019 Share #7 Posted July 7, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) AFAIK the writing speeds have always been limited by the camera from the M8 onwards.
AceVentura1986 Posted July 7, 2019 Share #8 Posted July 7, 2019 Jaapv, I understand about the limited writing speed of the M9 series cameras, but have you found that the above consensus is correct, ie, does using faster cards risk damaging these cameras? I know there was a major issue involving SD cards around 2012 or so, but always thought that was a combination of faulty or counterfeit SD cards that had flooded the market and a firmware glitch that Leica ultimately fixed. Do you know if my recollection is correct?

I have been using slow Verbatim Class 4 SD cards since I got my M9 Monochrom, when the camera was first released, with zero banding issues. They are still available via Amazon. Likaleica Posted August 7, 2019 Share #11 Posted August 7, 2019 I recently got a 16GB SanDisk Extreme 90MB/s that works fine.
otto.f Posted August 7, 2019 Share #12 Posted August 7, 2019 Oh I got a Chinese 32Gb card. I bought it in Beijing in 2014 for a third of the price of the western big names. It works flawless, never had any problem in 5 years. It barely has a logo, SCUD is written on it and that it’s SDHC
