Mine arrived today and has a big hair + dust speck in the EVF! 😣

I am sure the store can help me out, but still quite disappointing.

Johno said "After this experience I would never buy a flip camera".

What is a flip camera?

btw, I don't see any "black spots" or "specs" in the Q view finder, unlike my reading glasses.

  • 2 weeks later...

My Q2 also arrived flawed from B&H. There are two small pieces of dust right in the center of the EVF.

The original customer service rep was unhelpful and I had to ask for a supervisor multiple times. When I finally reached one, we had to do some brainstorming as to how I can hold on to my current Q2 while they wait for shipments for the replacement. Ultimately, we settled on them making a second charge for a new Q2 so that I can be bumped up to the top of the backorder list and extending my return window. Fingers crossed that my 2nd one arrives flawless!

Am I reading this correctly?  You now own a New Q2 with flaws that should never happen to a cameral at this price, and you have been charged for another Q2 that you do not actually have in your possession?  That's like 10K.  Its sad defects are leaving the factory like that.

Plus many smaller dealers seem to have them.  I would return to BH and get all my money refunded and buy from somewhere else.  Maybe Leica's sending out defects to Adorama and BH on purpose,  This ain't the first occurrence.

Well, my 2nd camera arrived today with a even worse flaw 😔There's a large scratch in the EVF. I'll be returning this one to B&H. They'll send me an exchange when they receive this one so that I can hopefully return my first camera.

This is my first Leica and I'm sad to say that I'm quite disappointed in Leica's quality control.

Or B&H's return policies....  I'm not accusing that in this case because I have no idea - but I have received "new" items from B&H in past that to my eye, were clearly "open box" condition. As early as last week I returned an item for this reason.  I've been a decades-long customer of B&H and almost always satisfied with my purchases but they are a big operation - a Q2 is likely just another camera to them, especially in these times of impersonal online orders and liberal return policies. In any event, I do have confidence that B&H will "make it right".

And with regard to Leica cameras and lenses - the boxes aren't factory sealed so it would be hard to say for absolutely certain whether something might have been handled or returned.  I'm just saying the EVF scratch might not have been in place when it left the elves at Leica.

All of my "new" Leica cameras and lenses over the years have been purchased through smaller Leica dealers (e.g., the late Ken Hansen, Popflash) and they have not only been knowledgeable and patient before sale but have helped rectify situations that arise whether at point of sale or a while later.

As I understand it, it's common practice for shoppers in the US to order stuff, use it a while then return it again if they just change their minds.

I can't see how a business can survive if they had to then sell all returns as used goods and I wonder if you've been unlucky in receiving two previously sold/returned cameras?

Why don't you return it for a refund buy from a Leica store? Might stand a better chance of getting a box fresh example?

I’m also pretty disappointed with the QCing......had my Q2 delivered last Friday and noticed what looks like a dead pixel (or possibly dust) on the rear screen.

Now I’m aware that the flaw is small and had this been a £500 camera, I’d have forgiven it, but at £4K+ any flaw, no matter how small is unacceptable.

This is my first Leica after years of lusting after one and I must admit, I’d expected better.

On the plus side, Clifton Cameras have been great and already sorted the uplift (although I have no idea when I’ll get a new unit).

Your understanding is a misunderstanding.

Not from what I’ve read on here from people doing just that. In the UK you can only return something if it’s faulty or - if bought by distance selling - if unused. Some retailers offer more relaxed terms but it’s at their discretion.

Are these outliers? Sorry for this to be my first post as I'm about to take delivery of a Q2, brand new from a Leica store, not an online purchase. Should I demand to inspect it, or will it still possibly emerge later with issues after use? Isn't the dust sealing designed to prevent things like this from even happening?

Received mine 3 days ago, I heard the flaw EVF problem on March and thought Leica has already found the solution.

The camera was made on 31st July and there is a dust on EVF. I contacted the retailer and they are happy do the exchange for me and give me priority on the waiting list, but not sure how long I need to wait and possibly there is another flaw EVF camera to pick. Fingers crossed.

I also sent the mail to Leica UK ask them how long it need to clear the dust EVF if I choose to send the camera back to repair. There is no any reply and  it looks they do not care about this problem at the moment because the dusty EVF do not impact the picture?

Don't believe it.  You cannot purchase a $5,000 Leica, use it, and then return it and say you want your money back.  From what I'm reading in this very thread, some are even having issues returning the Q2 with dark specs and/or hair in the EVF.

In the UK you can return an item bought at distance within 14 days, provided they are undamaged. That's why you'll see Wex UK selling "Open Box" items for a bit off the full price. They describe it as opened, inspected and returned unwanted.

Online, mail and phone order sales

Online, mail and telephone order customers have the right to cancel their order for a limited time even if the goods aren’t faulty. Sales of this kind are known as ‘distance selling’.

You must offer a refund to customers if they’ve told you within 14 days of receiving their goods that they want to cancel. They have another 14 days to return the goods once they’ve told you.

You must refund the customer within 14 days of receiving the goods back. They don’t have to provide a reason.
