Hi guys,

I would like to know other than ebay, where can I get the leather case that will cover the lens as well?

I have seen those in ebay but it seems it is no longer popular in real life (out of fashion or functionally inferior?)

Understanding that the lens protection may mean you will stick to one lens or lens of similar size - it actually suits my needs and frankly the case is very artistically pleasing. and if im putting my camera in a backpack while not using, I want protection on lens as well.

I wonder if there are companies still producing or ebay is the only option. Third party products is totally fine.

I have an M3 and a iiig. thought if these cases still exists and maybe are in production, they will need to do different one for different models?

Thanks,

I can understand the attraction. I had one for my M2 when I could only afford a couple of lenses: I chose the Summicron 35 and the collapsibles Elmar 90 and Summicron 50 on the grounds that they would both fit in the hard leather ERC. Working in different countries on construction sites and off road, something small and protective was vital, and paid for itself many times over.

And do you know where i can get one for my M3 and iiig? I am not too keen to go to ebay and still hope to get something new from third party if possible.

Leica still make a full ERC for the film M - the MP is essentially the same size as the M3 so it should fit fine.

For the lllg I would seek a good condition original case.

It all depends which strap lugs the M3 has, the MP case won't fit the early M3s. Here is the Luigi case.

I have asked Luigi for a quotation, indeed a premium price..

I bought mine used in Surabaya, Indonesia, in 1981😉

If I were looking now, I would look first on ebay for a used one. I don't know about new ones.

For M, there are choices of leather cases out there.

But for IIIg, I think that only classic Leica cases can be found.

I have one "classic case" for IIIg, handsome made and rugged,

the ennoying feature is the flap is not removable like modern cases.

Maybe, I'd replace the old used strap

Luigi (Leicatime) is a good choice for premium cases....I've owned several over the years...very well made, good selection of materials and colors...drawback is they are costly. I've also used Mr.Zhou for half cases...nice looking, but the fit is tighter than Luigi's...much less expensive.  As for the iiiG, I'd  recommend  at least looking on Ebay (not sure why you hesitate to use it, as they have by far the widest coverage/distribution network & offerings). There are a variety of OEM used ones for sale there now. I have a couple I got from Ebay in my workshop at this moment which I'm reconditioning for my cameras.

This is precisely the reason I use Leica case for the M4, #14546. The top can be separated from the bottom and fits my M3 perfectly.  They seem to be cheaper than the older cases as well.

As mentioned above, an actual Leica M case from 1984-2000ish will fit any M camera.  There must be some out there that don't cost a fortune..

And the older ones (M4 style, etc.) would also work.  I like the M4 case because the strap is attached to the case bottom and not the camera..

Old leather Leica cases are cheap enough. Cut the front off and put a new strap on.

You’ll have better luck getting an insert and a half case for the m7. Im not sure you can get a half case for the iiig.

For the insert, I suggest a Crumpler Haven. You can hold both cameras and move it from bag to bag.

For the m7 half case, I use a ZHOU HALF CASE. You can get them on eBay. They are very high quality and fairly priced. I’ve had mine for over ten years.
