stuny Posted August 9, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Before leaving Mandalay we bought some school supplies for a tiny Mo O village. I’m sure the children appreciated the school supplies, but they seemed to be smitten by the visit by a couple of Western outsiders. In the second shot the children were torn between following Barbara or following me. You can see more Ma O village photos on the 6th page of Myanmar photos of our site. jmr Posted August 9, 2006 Share #4 Posted August 9, 2006 Stuart, good shots. It almost always works to get down to their level, and it certainly has in the first shot. Do you think it's because it reminds us subconsciously of when we were children ourselves, and in some way transports us back to that long-passed time? semrich Posted August 9, 2006 Share #5 Posted August 9, 2006 Stuart, Very nice local interest photos, that nicely captured the childrens inquisitive looks, especially in number three of the two boys looking out the window. I looked at your web site photos, and through the travel notes, and maybe I missed it, but find no mention of the what looks like paint on some of the childrens faces. Do you know the significance of it? Richard
wda Posted August 9, 2006 Share #6 Posted August 9, 2006 Stuart, a fine series of pictures. D2? I particularly like the contra jour lighting in #2 David
stuny Posted August 9, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted August 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Victor & Erich - Thank you. John - Interesting observation. I agree. Richard - In Myanmar children and women of all ages use the off-white substance on their faces both as a sun block and as a cosmetic. It is made from the bark and roots of a thanakha tree. THose parts are ground to a paste. Sometimes the young women make rather intersting designs, as shown in the 5th Myanmar photo gallery, on the 4th & 5th row.. David - thank you. Yes, the D2. stuny Posted August 10, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted August 10, 2006 Big - Thank you. We greatly enjoy the opportunity to take those photos. Hopefully, the latest terrorist plots will not prevent us from carrying our photo gear on board on our next adventure in the fall. I'd be very worried about checking luggage containing anything with a Leica logo.
elansprint72 Posted August 10, 2006 Share #10 Posted August 10, 2006 Stu, Missed these due to info-overload on return from holiday! Really excellent series. Two weeks in rural France with no newspapers, radio or TV makes it difficult to catch up; I had to book an extra 2 days off work! Seems like lots of good and bad things on both a personal and world-wide scale can happen is such a short time. Best regards, Pete.
stuny Posted August 11, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted August 11, 2006 Pete - Thank you. I'll wager that being cut off as you were contributed to your enjoyment. Welcome back.
