Bill W Posted July 27, 2007 Share #1 Posted July 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone in the USA know where I can score some 55mm uv/ir filters? I keep looking but no one seems to have them at the usual sources. I need 2 of them.
Advertisement Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Hi Bill W, Take a look here Filters Needed. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Eoin Posted July 27, 2007 Share #2 Posted July 27, 2007 Bill, I have a Leica Chrome 55 UV/IR, possibly of no interest to you since it's chrome unless you have a 21 or 24 Asph in chrome you want to stick it on.
Bill W Posted July 27, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted July 27, 2007 Thanks, I guess I should have said I need the balck version. They are for my 24 and 90.
Eoin Posted July 27, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 27, 2007 I kind of figured that, happy hunting anyway.
dante Posted July 27, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 27, 2007 I might be able to use a 55mm chrome - for a Canon 50/1.2 in LTM. How much were you asking?
1234 Posted July 27, 2007 Share #6 Posted July 27, 2007 readily available online. just enter "486 55mm" without quotes into google or ebay. I bought one each from two vendors last week for same two lenses as you and have them now in hand. $105 to $125 range it seems.
gwelland Posted July 27, 2007 Share #7 Posted July 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Buyer wants Leica filters, not B+W. As someone in the same position I can definitely state that they are NOT readily available, although I'm sure there's a secret stash out there somewhere. For wide angle lenses the Leica filter produces a better result with in-camera IR correction than the B+W or Heliopan.
Bill W Posted July 27, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted July 27, 2007 My fault again for not being more specific but yes I am looking for the Leica version in black and not the B+W. There is a slightly different formula in the Leica version.
1234 Posted July 27, 2007 Share #9 Posted July 27, 2007 Do please tell us specifically about the "different formula".
Jamie Roberts Posted July 28, 2007 Share #10 Posted July 28, 2007 Bill, I do have a black spare BW IR 486. The different formula shouldn't affect the longer lenses, so that should be fine for the 90mm. But it's just a little too strong in some ways for the 24 with the vignette. So I just bought a silver 55 Leica for my 24 black Elmarit. With the lens hood on, who the heck cares what colour the filter is!!??? LOL!!!!
Ken R Posted July 28, 2007 Share #11 Posted July 28, 2007 I am thinking of putting the glass from a chrome leica filter into an old b&w mount since the chrome versions do seem to be around. On the bright side, I did finally receive my last free filter from leica - a black 60mm.
lars_bergquist Posted July 28, 2007 Share #12 Posted July 28, 2007 You did? I signed up for one 46 and one 55 mm filter when I registered my M8 in February, and I haven't seen the 55 mm one yet – but I presume that Europeans are not very high on the Leica totem pole.
