I use the card reader built into my Mac mini, the Lightning to SD Card Adapter for my iPhone, or the USB-C to SD Card Adapter for my iPad Pro 11". Occasionally I'll use Leica FOTOs to move exposures to the iPhone or iPad and then transfer them via AirDrop to the Mac. But the card reader is both more reliable and FAR faster.

I do both, card reader to my MacBook. Or Fotos app / wifi to my iPad. DNGs most of the time, then processed in Lightroom on either. Sometimes OOC B&W jpegs to iPad to post immediately.

I do DNG files exclusively. Leica FOTOs is horrifically slow with transfers but I usually only do that once in a bit. AirDrop from iPhone to Mac is quite fast (about 40x faster than Leica FOTOs) for raw files. Of course, a USB-C or built in card reader is 100-1000x faster than that so any large movement of files happens that way. :D
