Good evening,

A friend of mine has a black M240 in like new condition, with maybe 7 or 8,000 shutter clicks, she loves it but she is willing to sell it to me I assume because she will get an M10 soon. She asks me to make her an offer, so watching completed eBay listings I see several starting from $2300 up to $3000, (the majority in the $ 2500s). I wonder if 2500 is a fair offer and also I would like to ask if an M240 is still repairable by Leica. Thanks in advance for your advice,

Ricardo

Fair I mean within market parameters, I thought M240 bodies would still be way above 3,000 but I see -at least on eBay- several have been sold in the 2500s.

An item is only worth what others are willing to pay for it.

Your offer is fair if it is what the vast majority of people would pay for it, otherwise known as the market price.

Given that one of the biggest markets out there is eBay, I'd say your offer is more than fair.

If she tried to sell it herself on eBay or via a dealer, she'd have to pay at least 15 to 25 percent in fees: selling to you directly actually works out better for her.

You should check out dealer prices as well.  In the UK, stuff is cheaper from an authorised dealer than eBay, and you get a warranty as well.

You should ask her what number she has in mind so not to offend (too much). $2500 is a very good price from a buyer's perspective, but if I were the seller, I'd want something closer to $3k since it's in such good condition. However, what I want and what the market dictates are not necessarily mutually inclusive, of course.
