Silent shutter is an issue mostly for mixed light sources. Night street maybe but daylight should be fine, from my interpretation of the various articles I've read. And I think the Panasonic has a sweet shutter. Not much difference between EFCS and mechanical in sound. Maybe that's just me. Gordon Edited May 12, 2019 by mdemeyer Posted in error. I was rather shocked to use the SL after a spell with the S1R and realise just how loud the SL was in comparison. I would have thought that out and about for street photography you probably couldn't hear it a couple of metres away.
Siran Posted December 30, 2020 Share #63 Posted December 30, 2020 (edited) Hi all I currently have a SL2 and 50mm Summilux-m asph. My children are young so trying to capture them on the go with a manual lens is hard. I recently started to look into the Panasonic and Leica Summilux-SL as they offer AF. They both look good, although my heart is leaning towards the Leica. The bokeh looks special as shown in this video: The one consistent thing I hear about is the AF speed of the Leica being slow. Has there been any improvements with firmware? Does anyone actually have any footage of the SL2 plus 50SL locking on focus they could share, perhaps in daylight and also in low light to give me an idea? I live in an area where there are no Leica lenses readily available to loan or test, and it’s an expensive mistake if I buy something that isn’t quite what I need. The summicron-sl also looks amazing but as I have the 24-90mm I wanted to get something that has a wider aperture. Having said that, although I’m leaning towards the summilux and would look to sell my M Summilux to help fund the new lens, thoughts and feedback could sway me towards the Panasonic or potentially the Summicron. Basically I’m spoilt for choice and want some help 😂 In terms of what I’m going to use the lens for, I shoot mainly portraits or people photography. I don’t earn any income from my images, just a hobby, but I turned 40 this year and figured you only live once, so I’ve allowed myself to indulge in my aspiration of owning a Leica ever so slightly. Grateful for any input. Edited December 30, 2020 by Siran
