Neil Macmillan Posted March 29, 2019 Share #3 Posted March 29, 2019 Effective contre jour. Shadows are l-o-n-g.
Gelatino Posted March 31, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 31, 2019 I do like this contre jour. I would have taken off the silhouette on the right to give more attention to the main subject in the center. And may be a very slight correction of vertical lines, even if here, the convergence adds some deepness. Great DOF; it makes the eye go from front to back ground and return. et voilà. PS: Didn't read there had been a nuclear explosion over London ;))
farnz Posted March 31, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted March 31, 2019 Hi, Gelatino, thank you for your comment. The picture was taken from inside The Shard of Glass building in London, which tapers to a point so unfortunately the lines are naturally convergent and straightening them would have made the subject look off-ballance. I cropped to leave part of the silhouetted figure on the right in frame to pose a narrative question to the viewer as to which was actually the shadowy figure? If it didn't produce a dichotomy for the viewer then it didn't work and I've learnt something. 😃 Pete.
benqui Posted April 2, 2019 Share #6 Posted April 2, 2019 Well the nuclear explosion is in my opinion a side effect in digital photography, but the photo with the lights and shadows is really an eyecatcher. It is a matter of taste but I agree with Gelatino, that cropping the photo without the person on the right side would be for sure also a very interesting scene. But with or without the person, I like it a lot!
