Setting f stop when using M lens

I just got my new CL yesterday. But, I can't see how to set the f stop on my CL when using a M lens. I am using the Leica M to L adapter. It seems the manual says in A mode I would need to set the actual lens f stop with the right wheel. But my right wheel only changes ISO? Am I looking at it wrong?

David you can only set the M lens aperture directly on the lens. What you are referring to does not apply to M lenses. The adapter will pass the lens profile to the camera ( assuming coded lens) but there is no mechanical connection to operate aperture and focus rings and M lenses have no electronics either of course. Do check if you have most recent firmware by the way. I found it took me time to understand but you can change assigned wheel functions ( for native lens  functions).

Hello hoppyman from Atlanta. So for instance if I am A mode and I set the lens to 2.0, I don't set anything on camera? My lens isn't coded

Coding has noting to do with it. The camera cannot control a mechanical and manual aperture, nor can the lens communicated the aperture you have set to the camera. There is no electrical connection. The coding only serves to identify the lens to the camera. If it is not coded, you can enter the lens in the camera menu.

The main reason I asked was that the M-Adapter guide book says the aperture will look like F 0.0 in the screen but mine says F - -, is that normal?

Well, it should make no difference, 0.0 or -.-

Mine has never said F 0.0, always F - - whatever coded or uncoded M lens is used.

It is quite simple and logical. Just like using an M. Focus is set manually and so is lens aperture set manually . It is delightfully simple and a joy to use.

A works, the left dial can set M, which I have been doing. I use the CL very much like I used my M-2s. Determine what you are photographing, set the appropriate aperture. Then let A do the work or set the speed on M. The more modern M lenses do send aperture info, but mine are from the 60s and 70s. I can set my 1st generation 35 Summilux on the CL and my 90 Elmarit. But they aren't set automatically. I am waiting for a 23 Summicron, so I'll see what happens with an official TL lens.

Ummm-- NO M lens sends aperture info, old or new. A TL lens is fully electronically integrated with the CL.

Hi David. That is correct. There is nothing you can set on the camera that will change the aperture setting on the lens.

if your lens is uncoded the camera does not automatically use a lens profile which can make corrections for vignetting for example. You can select what lens it is in menu if uncoded I think . I do not have any uncoded lens to check that.
