A common problem.

The ocular must be cleaned, especially the small sensor window on top. Clean it right up to the edges and remove any smearing.

I must put this one in the FAQ.

My CL just spent a month at Leica for this, the diagnosis was faulty/dirty sensor. Tried to keep it clean but just wasn't working. I think the micro brushes help more than a Q-Tip or glasses cleaning cloth, but got them too late. Before I sent it off there was basically no switching to the LCD, had progressively gotten worse even with trying to clean the sensor area. Camera is back and behaving.

It shouldn't be cleaned too wet. Cleaning fluid penetrating the edges will make the problem worse.
