I have a MP240 which makes a great travel camera.  My current film Leica is an M5 which has a great meter but is larger then the classic film bodies.  I have shot with Leica's since 1975 but have never tried an LTM.  So, I am thinking an LTM (3F?) would make a great travel companion to the MP240 since it is so small.  And it would probably just be fun to slow down.  Does anyone else use both or am I just nuts?

After decades of M use, I THOUGHT that ltm Leica are "has been",

but a couple of years ago, some hard ltm users showed me their photos taken from ltm Leica,

I gave a try the cheapest found by then was a Standard of 1933 with same period Elmar 5cm.

Need not to say I was hooked by this small Leica.

So after this Standard I purchased when possible other ltm with more features, but the simplicity of the first were lost.

At the end of ltm line (not really it's ltm but for fun ) one "0 Replica" came, but this is far too much for everyday use.

Go for it and use it, just like any camera, for travel or other uses.

Just another thought from my experience : not good idea to use along (same time) digital M and LTM.

But, after using it, you may prove me wrong...

I accept that.

Bought a Leica IIIf three years ago and like it a lot, as it is a very native kind of photography for me!

Personally I find my lllf quick to use. No switch to turn it on or battery to charge. Out shooting once I’ve set the exposure and zone focussed it’s in my hand ready for grab shots immediately!

The lllf is a good choice but arguably the ‘best’ user is a lllc as they do the same but are usually cheaper. That said you can’t go wrong with any LTM.

A nice 5cm Elmar makes a great kit.

The iiig with Leicavit is very good to me with a late Summitar, but I use an additional shoe-mount finder (OVF), too. In fact, all but my M10 have an OVF. (It's personal)

I also travel with an M240, and own a IIIf (and a IIIa, and a couple M4's).  The LTM's are nice cameras and I enjoy them, but for travel I prefer to keep the weight and bulk down, so I haven't been using film for travel in a while.  Although I have a second M240, I have been bringing a Sony NEX-6 as a backup.  However if I were to shoot digital and film in tandem on a trip I would bring an M4, the reason being I only want to carry one kit of lenses and not be continually installing and uninstalling adapters.   The same was true when I shot only film, I either traveled with 2 LTM's or 2 M's, not a mixture of both.

+1

Lately I have been carrying my M2 along with M240. It simply slips into jacket pocket and acts like film back to whatever M lenses I am carrying or mounted on digital M.

I also use Nex6 but mostly with long lenses (90+). It means it goes only when I am going on serious photo trip. In future it may be replaced by CL.

I have to say that I have been tempted for LTM camera but not being able to share my existing M lens was a deal breaker for me. But who knows when GAS hits. :)

my last 2 trips :

SL601 with leica 50mm ASPH + M5 with 90mm APO x 12 rolls of film.

SL601 with 90mm APO + iiif with summitar 5cm x 12 rolls of film...on this trip i had more fun with the iiif than the SL

As I posted in the film forum, I just ordered a 3F RD ST with 50f3.5 Elmar.  I have never owned a screw mount Leica and being a Leica, if I don't like it I can sell it without much of a loss.  Of course, I don't use my other three film cameras enough but I am 66 so!

When I get older, I appreciate different things than when I was younger.

As most of us, nothing to justify for myself or other persons, nothing to prove neither.

To aid the fun to M use, I've  bought some older ltm lenses before ltm body.

Those lenses give nice and lovely pictures, but they need to be learned as most gear.
