I sold my 50 SL a while ago... AF was too slow, and it was just too big for a 50mm lens.

Well... after a long drought without it. I got the opportunity to buy MINE back :) After extensive use of my other 50's, I finally figured out that the SL really is a flagship lens.

Welcome home... LOL.

Look at the statistics: This lens has/had 3 owners. Two of the three were dissatisfied, so they sold the lens. So most of the users did not like this lens ...

What does it tell about the lens ? What does it tell about this sort of statistics ?       🙂

Your comment tells me that you are not too mathematically inclined individual who would call one single data point statics. Besides you must ignore Leica owners who happen to be a bunch who can afford financial to have fun. Perhaps you can help enlighten us which other lens maker charges more than we can also start buying up them as well.

Donzo did the right thing, economically. The math is simple. Panasonic will likely sell a couple of hundred thousand S1/S1Rs in the first year alone. After a couple of years there will be at least half a million L mount bodies out there, I estimate. If only a fraction of those users, let’s say 4 percent (96 percent will be happy with Panasonic and Sigma lenses), desire a Leica SL prime lens for that special depth rendering, no flare, no CA/PF, optical excellence ‘out of the box’ and assuming most of them will want/are smart enough to buy used, that’s an underlying bid for 20,000 SL35s, 50s, 75s, and 90s. Think about it, folks, 20,000 eBay bids for SL primes. Good luck trying to find those. Donzo will become rich. It’s a no brainer.

It tells us nothing, other than Don thought it was a fantastic lens! Which it is.

And with the logic above, I just picked up the 75 Summicron-SL, brand new, in a never opened box, at a 6.8 percent discount. Just as an illustration, in B&H terms this would be like paying $4,426 instead of $4,750 (of course, I paid the discount on the EUR list price). I can use it for a couple of years and still be able to sell it for about $3,350, I figured. The price new will be above $5,000 in three years’ time, I guess. That’s an amortization of $350 per year for an optically excellent weather sealed lens just waiting to be mounted on those modern low light, high ISO, high MPx S1R/SL2 sensors. It beats renting any day.

You realise @caissa's post was a joke? At least I took it as that.

Really love the IQ of this lens... second to none wide open.

Sample size is too small?

The IQ is the same as the first time you owned it, but your expectations may be lower now. 😁

I just didn't like the large size and slow AF... but everything has it compromises.  I now feel the IQ outweighs both of the negatives.

Plus, I bought it back for less than I paid :)

Don’t tell him that. He may sell his 75SL then.

He bought the 50sl back for less and can now sell the 75SL!  Next thing . . . he will buy his SL back again. (Sometimes, the more things change, the more they stay the same. :) )
